Bathroom tiles grout colour and tiles laying question -Need to decide by tomorrow!

Hi all,
I am doing two bathrooms and a kitchen floor tiling at the moment. Will be using same tiles 60x60 greyish porcelain everyone (wall and floor).

few questions

  • Which colour grout should I use? I like the look of grouts that blends in colour with tiles. But it may be light for floor.
  • Should I used same colour grout for walls & floor?
  • Is light grey grout ok for bathroom and kitchen ?

I am trying to get epoxy grout - which brand is good for that?

Also,
My tiler is insisting not to clean the old tile adhesive.. Is it ok to put new adhesive for tiles on top of old adhesive ( old adhesive is 2-3 mm and new will be 4-6 mm) @pigletjohn

@TizerorFizz@Ilovemyshed

Would love what you all think and learnings from experience !

Many thanks in advance

My experience is if you have 2 colour grouts the fitters get confused and put them in the wrong places. May just be them but that's my warning.

I am surprised that the new tiles will be placed on top of the old remnants of previous flooring. That would be a quality issue for me.

But if you're going to go ahead I would do a darker grout on the floor than on the wall tiles. And have the floor tile set with a less of a separation than the wall tiles.

I have silver- blends nicely and easy to keep looking clean

dark grey grout for floor or it will always look dirty.

walls are usually white or pale.

I am surprised old adhesive is not being taken up. Is it a waterproof adhesive? Difficult to get off. Might need grinding. Standard adhesive is easy

no experience of epoxy.

tilers usually swear by BAL powder (not premix)

I've never seen tilers tile on top of old adhesive. Usually they scrape it off with a shovel or something first.

I would use the same grout for both floor and walls.
I would use mid to dark grey.
I have had excellent results using paint on clear sealant for the grout. Painted on with a fine paint brush - three coats - helps facilitate easy cleanig.

It is ground floor apartment - solid concrete floor below. Old adhesive is 1-2 mm.
new tiles are 60x60 cm and tiler is planning to use 10 mm trawl with back buttering .
he thinks its ok to leave old adhesive there and new adhesive will be 4-5 mm.

I am worried thats why I asked question here!
Many Thanks for your reply

Also, I need to finalize the kitchen splashback.
Dilemna is whether to go for super big tiles (80-60/120 cm) or small metro tiles?

I want it to easy to clean (hence considering big tiles) but they might not look around sink area where we just need 40 cm height. We may have to use trip and thick tiles might not look good !

Metro tiles - like the look of it but it might be difficult to keep grout clean...with so many grout lines?

Its a rental flat so I need durable plus easy to clean.

In WIndow sill - considering to install quartz there if I go metro tiles. local merchants has lots of of cuts and I can get for good price..

have a look at their advice page, or message their help desk, about removal of old remnants

https://www.bal-adhesives.com/tilers-home/products/

Just called Mapie and asked the question. They are saying its ok to put new adhesive on top of old one if it is stable!

Many thanks @PigletJohn
