Hi, just wanted to pick the mumsnet brain for how people manage without broadband when you move to a new home! We will be moving our existing provider but it might take a week or so. What with dh working from home dc in constant need of gaming and tablets etc what is the best temporary solution?!

If you’re with BT they send you a mobile hub to use free of charge

Sadly we are with Now and their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, I've lost track of how many calls I've made to them to sort the move, probably more than I've made to solicitors and agents during the whole moving process!

What do you have for your mobile phones? Can you upgrade to unlimited data for a short period and use them as a personal hotspot?

Try a TP-Link router (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0711ZS29Y/ref=pe_27063361_487055811_TE_dp_1) - about £109, plus a SIM. SMARTY is cheap and unlimited but check whether Three has good coverage in your area first. EE is reliable but more expensive (and their £35ish 'unlimited' SIM isn't really unlimited - something like 600GB, which is fine for normal WFH, Netflix etc. but not sure about gaming).
It caused a bit of trouble with my work VPN, but it worked itself out (weirdly).
A bit expensive for just a week - but you can take the router abroad with you easily, it's only a little thing.

I paid for short term access to BT's open network or whatever it was called.

If your current provider is crap, why are you staying with them?

That was about a decade ago though, I'd probably pay for a short term package with my mobile provider for the interim period and hotspot now.

I've not long taken out a new contract with them which was a good deal and the actual broadband has been really good over the last couple of years with them, just their call centre drives me mad although I'm sure the same can be said for many other companies!

Look at ee wifi. Used to be BT. I'm having a large extension built an am living in a flat. It works well.

Does your DH have a work phone or unlimited data on personal? I used my personal hotspot on work phone to tether off until my wifi was sorted
