What’s the done thing - not sure if I should turn it off after final meter readings?

Personally I would switch off the heating and hot water on the timer, but leave the boiler switch on. Also leave the manuals for the boiler and timer switch nearby if you have them.

I'd leave it on. Not sure if that's the done thing, but it'd be nicer to move into a house that's not freezing cold, and has plenty of hot water.

It was on, not on 22C obviously but it’s still on. The house was empty and it was cold month so the boiler was on sensible temperature for this.

Leave it on.
The last thing you want after shifting boxes ad cleaning all day is a cold shower.
And in winter, leaving the heating on - even if low because the house will be empty for a bit - will prevent pipes freezing.

Boiler was left on - as in the pilot was still in flame but the heating was turned to frost mode - it was July!. Combi boiler, so hot water available at the flick of a tap.

Combi boiler. Left on, but heating turned down (to avoid pipes freezing etc). I didn’t know when the new owners were planning to move in. I left the manuals and the thermostat in a really obvious place, so easy for them to crank it up. That house heated quickly.

The home we moved into (new build) was all on (and very hot!). But ASHP, so would have taken a day to come up to temperature if it hadn’t been on in advance.

Well I bought an ex rental which has been empty do off. You don't know when they are moving in so I'd turn it off

doppelgangermirror · 06/03/2024 15:53

We moved the day after one of the coldest nights of the year! We'd had the heating on as we were moving out, then just switched it to hot water only from memory as we had no idea whether our buyers would actually be moving in that day or not (they were moving from rented).

Ours had been left to come on - so the settings were to come on in the morning and afternoon/evening. It was nice to come into a warm house and know that the boiler was working!

Thanks all! I know the property will be empty initially so airing on the side of leaving it off.
