Toilet leak

Hello

Is it possible for a toilet to leak to come out into the same drain that takes the shower/ bathroom sink water waste?

We have water dripping constantly in our drain. It's not the kitchen outlet but the bathroom one. Obviously all taps/ shower is off and it's still doing it.

We share the drain with a neighbour so we think it could be coming from their end. But we can't see into the area where the pipes meet the drain. But we can see where the water comes out. It's a steady trickle like a tap has been left on.

The only other option is the toilet if it's not coming from them.

The neighbours are away so it could be that they have accidentally left a tap running. We're worried in case it's our end though!

We had an issue where the cistern was slowly overflowing and the overflow was being sent down the same pipe as the drain from the sink rather than into the loo itself. As a result it wasn't visible as all but was running all the time.

@NetballHoop thank you. The cistern looks fine not over flowing from what I can see and there is no noise. How did you determine if there was a leak? Can we shut off the toilet somehow to see if the water stops?

Sorry another update- I turned off the water supply to the toilet and the water is still running.

Turned back on and the cistern has filled up again

@coastingcoffee a neighbour who's a builder suggested we put some food colouring in the cistern to make it easier to see where it's going. We overfilled the cistern and saw nothing coming through the toilet so he then lifted the cover to the outside drain and saw a blue trickle coming through which was slow but constant when the cistern was full.

Edit, just seen your update. Ignore this as obviously not the same issue.

@NetballHoop good suggestion but yes I don't think it's the same issue.

This is so frustrating. I need to try and dangle my phone out the window to try and see which pipe the water is coming from Confused
