Composite door - yes or no?

Hi all,

We’ve just got to the point of replacing the front door in our never-ending renovation 😂

I saw a local windows/doors small company advertising doors - he’s got a deal on which will cost me £1550 for a composite door, fully fitted.

Is this a good price? Door companies that offer fitting are so bloody mysterious about quoting for a new door. They want to schedule callbacks, “pop round” and need to practically become your new best friend before they’ll reveal the sodding price 🤦🏻‍♀️

Also, are composite doors good?

I thought they were better quality than upvc but just searched on here for threads about composite door prices and I just found loads of people saying they’re shit! 😳

Photo of the type of door that I want. Think we’re going for dark green. Front garden is north-facing.

Thank you!

I've got a composite door & it's streets ahead of the upvc one it replaced. It's got a much more solid feel about it & it looks so much nicer. I got mine in 2020 & it was about £1300

I love our composite door. Really well constructed and much better insulation than our old uPVC door. Ours was around £1200 5 years ago. I think some people have found that dark colours fade in strong sunlight but our dark, east facing door still looks great. Your north facing door should have no problems.

I’ve got a composite door. It’s really solid.

Be careful to get the right type depending on your security needs. The foam filled ones are not as good.

Also if you get one in the style of that tiny window and the door is north facing it will hardly let any light in.

Get decent locks.

You photo is basically my daughters front door, same colour without the knocker! Her cottage door is right on the pavement so that tiny window works.

And yes, composite doors are vastly better than uPVC. I've had mine (a dark blue) for 12 years now and it looks as good as the day it was put in. Research the manufacturers and get a good one (the retailers should be open about the brands - Solidor is a good one).
