Currently helping DB and SIL narrow down areas to buy in, 3 bedroom house, spacious preferred.

They saw a property in Netherne (near Coulsdon) on Saturday which they said was very small but also said no one was around during the day, they got a very strange vibe from the place and said it didn't seem to have much of a high street eg cafes etc.

Bromley is another area they're viewing this Saturday. But don't know much about it apart from I go shopping there sometimes.

How many houses go for under the asking price these days too?

They don't go for under asking where I am in bro key and the market is hot.

Yeah was just asking to see. A couple of properties I’ve seen for them online have reduced prices recently.

I’m in Bromley, it’s a great area to live. I have a friend who lives in Netherne and she has to drive everywhere. There used to be minibus for residents to get to Coulsdon for the station etc. but it stopped so there’s no public transport now. Some parts of Bromley are more desirable than others based on primary school catchments or how close they are to a station, these are the pricier areas. I’ve noticed a lot of places aren’t selling because there aren’t a lot of buyers in the market for 8 to £900,000 3/4 bedroom houses so they sit around unsold.

Netherne was built on the site of an old psychiatric hospital. It's very enclosed a separate from other development. I agree about needing to drive everywhere. Coulsdon itself is nice - shops, restaurants, train and bus links.

Thanks! For the budget they've got there are some houses which aren't the nicest aesthetically pleasing in Bromley but until my DB gets a permanent job it means their budget is lower.

Makes sense about Netherne's history and having a strange vibe. There's sort of a similar vibe I think in Bethlem Hospital area of Bromley/Beckenham - not that I'd count it out. One of the main reasons for them liking Bromley is it has good transport links (needed for SIL's job) and the area itself is generally very nice. They'd prefer Beckenham but that's pricier and more sought after.

I really don't know Coulsdon that well apart from my boss living there and driving through it sometimes.
