Buyer has went AWOL on completion day

A previous sale fell through so we went onto sell via auction to a cash buyer as estate agent said this was a quick, easy and sure fire way to sell. Ended up taking 10K under valuation but needed a quick sale. Contracts exchanged at the end of auction with completion to take place within 28 days. 28 days is today and was supposed to be completion day (confirmed last week) but buyer hasn’t transferred the remaining funds. His solicitor can’t contact him, our solicitor is having no luck. Stress levels are so far through the roof I could cry right now- has anyone experienced similar? The only thing our solicitor has said at the moment is that they’re never had this happen with an auction sale before which wasn’t particularly helpful!

Thanks everyone, I’m hoping for a miracle tomorrow 🤞🏻

@Isitovernow123 it was traditional auction.

@DidIReallyAsk I don’t think so, they said they would see if he made contact tomorrow and take it from there.

@Streeeesssseeed I feel your pain. We are currently holed up in a very nice Airbnb as our house purchase as been delayed by 3 weeks and we had to move out of the rental property. All furniture in storage
We are hoping to sign contracts tomorrow, then we have another 10 days cooling off period (not UK). We should of had the keys on 15th Feb but now possibly 11th March....but who friggin knows ....been incredibly stressful as no one tells us anything .

Slanabhaile · 27/02/2024 22:52

Oh @Streeeesssseeed you poor thing 😔 I can't imagine how stressful this is.
Hope you get some sleep tonight and all works out tomorrow.

"Has went AWOL"
"Has went" is awful English.

"Has gone AWOL" is correct. 👍

I am sure OP is going to feel so much better now you have pointed out her error, especially as she sits in a hotel just wondering what is going to happen to her and her home.

Zyq · 28/02/2024 00:49

Have you exchanged contracts on your purchase? What is happening about that?

BrieAndChilli · 28/02/2024 00:50

It doesn’t look good as he would probably have had to transfer the money to his solicitor first thing or even yesterday so it was in place to sent to yours today. Even if he had an emergency the cash should he’s been somewhere ready

Caterina99 · 28/02/2024 01:04

Finger crossed OP

Are you in the Marina Alta, by any chance?

Tupster · 28/02/2024 08:58

I'm going to be optimistic for you. If the buyer has already paid the deposit, then that shows some kind of intent. If the buyer is a property investor, then they are unlikely to have suddenly got cold feet and not intend to complete. Most likely they've made some kind of mess up with making their funds available, or something's happened elsewhere in their life that's taken their eye off the ball. I'm crossing everything for you.

@penjil

'went' instead of 'gone' is perfectly normal/proper usage in Scotland, and - I believe - also in some parts of the USA. https://www.languagereach.com/the-spirit-of-scots/

I've also heard it commonly used in northern Ireland.

Emelene · 28/02/2024 10:00

I hope you get good news today OP!

Wow - talk about kicking someone when they're down. Do you feel better for your little condescending outburst?
There was no need and whereas you were obviously trying to embarrass the OP, you've only actually made yourself look like a tit.

Hope it all resolves for you today OP

Proudwomantoday · 28/02/2024 12:16

@penjil idiot of the day. A nasty post. Hope you feel better.

@penjil it is perfectly acceptable in Scotland. Do your research before trolling. hth.

Flubadubba · 28/02/2024 16:56

Ignoring all the rest of the posts....

@Streeeesssseeed has there been any movement today?

Hoping that the lack of post means that you have been busy moving...

Streeeesssseeed · 28/02/2024 18:37

Good news update from me! After a super stressful day we got the call to say we completed just after 4pm 🎉

Buyer finally answered his phone and offered no explanation for the delay other than to say he ”didn’t understand why everyone had their knickers in a twist” 🙄

Thanks for the support and help over the last 24 hours, it was much appreciated. I don’t think I’ve ever been so anxious!

So pleased and relieved for you @Streeeesssseeed , that's great news. Best of luck in your new home - I think more wine may be called for! 😊

Tupster · 28/02/2024 18:48

Yay!!! @Streeeesssseeed so happy for you - I've been checking back all day hoping to hear all was well :-)
