Interior Designer - Scope Change & Fee

Hi all,

Looking for some opinions on what you'd expect in the below situation.

We recently hired an interior designer to revamp our new house. We are now a few weeks in and it's becoming clear that our budget does not stretch to redesigning every room to the standard we want.

We have a couple of guest rooms that are not frequently used. Originally we had said these would just need a bit of 'sprucing' - a lick of paint, some accessories, small pieces of furniture, but no major work. We're now thinking of not doing anything to those rooms at all, and reallocating that budget to the main living space. The intention would be to then update these rooms somewhere along the line.

The designer has done some simple concept boards for the rooms already but nothing more.

Would it be reasonable to ask them to continue working on the design, but saying that we will not actually be redecorating at this time? What would be really helpful is if they could put together some design recommendations and example items to buy, and then we can implement this when we have the budget/time.

It feels a bit cheeky but I do also feel like we have paid for the design of these rooms in our fee (although no rooms are specifically mentioned in the contract).

Thanks in advance

It always comes down to the Contract - I would definitely ask and negotiate that with the designer, might not be a problem?

Yes that's cheeky. How hard is it to decorate a couple of bedrooms if you already have a "concept" in mind?!
