Extensions 3 to 4 bed

We really need a 4 bed house but unfortunately cannot afford to move. We could extend upstairs (downstairs extension already done) but only to the front, not to the back or side and a loft conversion looks to be an expensive job as the roof would need raising.

How would you turn this space into 4 decent sized bedrooms and a shower room (not en-suite)? I've thought about 2 beds at the front but worried they will be too narrow and small.

Can two of your children "semi" share? There was a family recently where they used bunk beds as a divider - space at one end to get around if necessary. Lower bunk had the top bunk boarded off. Upper bunk had the lower one boarded off.

They're too old for bunks these days. Due to the layout of the window (which is massive) and the door it wouldn't work

First check whether it's something you are even likely to be allowed to do. Front extensions are generally much harder to get permission for than rear.

We made a loft conversion not by raising the roof but lowering the ceilings below the loft, could that be an option?
Or the upstairs extension then split that room adding a door extending the wall by the bathroom a bit
