Cost to move washing machine to attached garage?

Hi, does anyone know how difficult it would be to move our washing machine into our attached garage and how much it would cost (approximately), please? The garage is right off the kitchen and the washing machine could go against the wall adjoining the kitchen if that would help. There's power in the garage already, and I plan to put the dryer out there also.

This would clear the way in the kitchen for us to be able to install a dishwasher where the washing machine currently lives. I assume this would be very straightforward.

It depends if you have water and drainage near the garage. It could be an easy fix or a very expensive fix to run the waste from the washing machine to the drain.

Thanks, @OhhhhhhhhBiscuits . The water and waste is across the kitchen from the garage, but it's a small kitchen.

When we did this, our boiler happened to be in our attached garage, next to where the machine is installed, so it was easy to get a water supply. The waste went directly through the wall and routed around the external wall to the existing drain.

I can't remember how much it was, but not expensive, less than £100, I think. The plumber was doing a few jobs for us at the same time, which kept the cost down.

If you have a condenser/ heat pump, it can drain into the same waste pipe to save emptying the tank. (We also have a dehumidifier that can drain into it too.)

Yes, washing machine changed to dishwasher in kitchen should be simple.

You need electric supply, cold water feed and waste pipe.

So how long is a piece of string to put those in place. May be easy or may be hard.

Thanks @hedgehoglurker . We need a new boiler also, so I'm hoping to lure a plumber in with that as I think they like doing them, and just add this and an addional radiator on as well.

We have that set up ( washing machine and tumble dryer) and it's brilliant although was done before we moved in. Our kitchen is the opposite side of the house and downstairs loo the same side although across a hallway. My guess is that it was quite easy (as not a lot of money spent on the house generally). I also put the clothes airer out there for non tumble dryer clothes and they generally dry pretty much overnight even when it's cold. Would recommend doing it

Materials wise probably very little. Will need 15mm copper or plastic pipe running from probably under your sink to the new place. Then you’ll need to run a waste pipe out of the back and into the nearest drain. It’ll need a few clips and consumables so perhaps £20 - £50 of stuff depending on length. You’ve already got power.

I imagine in isolation it’d be a 90 mins ish job so times that by the £70 - £110 per hour call out rate depending on where you are in the country. I’d guess £150 - £200 all in.

We've just spent 2yrs renovating a derelict property. I can't comment on costs, because every area, plumber, supplies will be different.

As a side though, we got a new Viessman boiler. DH did a huge amount of research and found they were the most efficient, 98% compared to others. We have gas though, so can't comment on electric.

Have you thought about a water softener whilst you are doing the other bits? Best thing ever. No more dots on our shower screen, I use use less shampoo and the toilet bowl is no longer furred up.

I am moving my washing machine and dryer to a cupboard outside of the kitchen and replacing and moving a radiator (ie. Moving location of and replacing 1 radiator) next month. The washing machine will be next door to a bathroom so the water can easily be routed in and out through the wall between the cupboard and bathroom. Cost for both bits of work will be £450. I'm in the Home Counties. Hth
