New build snags - will they replace our flooring?

We’ve been living in a new build for almost 2 years now, and we had two years to report any snagging.

We recently noticed that our carpet in the hall was soaking wet, and then the same for our living room carpet (open plan kitchen/living) and DH thought maybe a water leak under the flooring, he checked the pipes behind the kitchen sink and there was a leaky one, but instead of it leaking out on top of our vinyl flooring it’s obviously been leaking for some time and has gone directly under the vinyl which isn’t sealed behind the cabinets and has travelled all the way down the kitchen and living room and made the carpet wet.. but it’s also created mould/water spots to come up in the vinyl flooring and it looks hideous awful!

but looking at the information from them they will only replace structural stuff like under flooring and no floor coverings?! Surely this is their fault for not sealing the vinyl, we were non the wiser until our carpets were soaked😮‍💨

anyone had any experience?

Surely the issue is the leaky pipe not whether the vinyl was sealed or not? I'm not sure this can be considered a snagging issue

Claim on insurance 🤷‍♀️

We’ve fixed the leaky pipe obviously but it’s the dam sage to the flooring I’m concerned about. We’ve no idea how long it’s been leaking but it’s been long enough that the floor has mould spots. I would have thought they would have to be at fault for that as the flooring was not sealed allowing water to get underneath?

It isnt a wet room it's a kitchen so the flooring wouldn't usually be sealed.

Nervousbloodywreck · 11/02/2024 15:04

@Geneticsbunny really? I read online that in kitchen and bathrooms the flooring should be sealed all the way around to prevent water getting underneath?

If there is vinyl then the visible edges usually have a bead of silicon run round to make them neat but that doesn't really "seal" them. It is more for appearance. Also you wouldn't seal flooring which is behind cabinets.
