Hello can you advise me on areas of Sheffield please? I'm swapping my council house to Sheffield and hoping to buy one day so Dore, for instance, would probably be out of budget (in the future).

We don't need access to education and are not shoppers or sociable joiners and drive so probably less constrained than a lot of people.

I'm just looking for somewhere safe, quiet and green with lots of places for dog walks. Safe and not too trafficky are the main criteria.

I'm thinking of S12, i know it's not chichi but that's fine. Do you see it as safe and green? We're very quiet people and unlikely to attract attention.

S35 is a pretty big area, a lot of it quite rural but some of it considerably less so. In my view, a lot of S35 doesn't feel like Sheffield and in fact parts of it are covered by Ecclesfield Parish council, so you have 2 councils to deal with - the parish one, and the city one.

S10 is very green. I would prefer it to much of S35 but you may well get stuck in the snow in winter in S10!

I'd avoid most of S5. I'd also avoid Gleadless Valley/Herdings (I think parts of those might be in S2 and S14?) but other parts of Gleadless, specifically the area near Gleadless Townsend, are fine.

I'd avoid Jordanthorpe/Batemoor/Lowedges (S8) too! Like the plague in fact! They should be good places, they're on the "posher" side of town, with plenty of open country all around, but it's not that long ago that Lowedges in particular had the highest rate of drug associated crime in the city! I've got to admit though that I don't know if that's still the case or if somewhere else wears that unfortunate crown now.

Whereever you are though, check the parking - a lot of sheffield streets are pretty crap for parking.

That's another thing, Barnsley!! I have a friend who lives in Barnsley, Birdwell?? Which i think is lovely. And she says parts of outer Rotherham are also gorgeous, Rother Valley?

S35 is nice. Train station and very close to open country side and very pretty wentworth village. Lots of nice walks

I did view a council house in Dore and it wasn't for me. The design of the estate had all the houses very cheek by jowl and all overlooking each other's gardens. It felt like being in a fishbowl. The surroundings were gorgeous but it just felt a bit chichi and would be too expensive if i can ever buy a council property. I think my price range will be far more s12 than s17, but I'm excited about s35.

I love Ringinglow but I don't think there's any council properties there.

S35 has some lovely areas. I'd definitely look at Barnsley, a friend of mine has a council house in Worsborough overlooking beautiful countryside, I am so jealous of her views!!! There are gorgeous walks there.

I live S75 and am close to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, beautiful countryside walks and our house 5 miles down the road would cost 60k more!!

Barnsley has some beautiful areas and Worsborough Mill is really good for walking
