Is there an extra wide under counter fridge?

They all seem designed to fit into the 60cm of a standard unit. But we are putting a new kitchen in so could fit a wider fridge for more space. I've googled but no luck! Do they exist?

Full height/ free standing fridge not an option. We are a family of 5 so a normal under counter fridge is a bit small.

I presume a wider fridge would need a wider door, which sounds unlikely. Maybe there are some with two 60cm doors, one opening out on each side? Could you have two fridges side by side if you only want under-counter?

No you won’t get one. Either two side by side as Pp has suggested. Or redo your kitchen layout to have a full height fridge.

Is there really no possibility of a full height? Under counter with a family of 5 would drive me bonkers even if you had two.

Do you have very sloping ceilings all around or something?

crackedvass · 06/02/2024 16:54

Afraid they don't, it's either 2 or a taller fridge or a spare in a garage.

Can you get refrigerator drawers in the UK? They might work?

We had a similar problem and bought two under the counter fridges. Three actually - two fridges and one freezer. Got the biggest capacity available for each type. Definitely enough for family use. We did lose some storage space as a result but the compromise works for us.

Do check the fridge label for capacity. Even though they are all 60cm standard in width, how much they can hold internally does vary.

Thank you everyone. It's good to know I can stop looking at least!
No we can't have anything tall - the kitchen is going against a wall with windows all along.
We'll consider two fridges if we can fit them in (prob not)!

They exist, but they are commercial fridges. Google french door undercounter fridge.

My husband was convinced we didn't have room for a full sized fridge. So I put up with an under the counter fridge in the kitchen (as far as I can tell they are all inconvenient and a bit crap) with a fridge freezer in the utility. Finally got a free standing FF put in at the end of a run of units. Had to saw a chunk off the worktop and take down a wall cupboard. It FITS. It does not look too big, it just looks like it belongs there. Husband thinks it was all his idea 😂

How wide are you thinking? 120cm or just slightly larger than 60cm?
I'm sure my in laws have a wine fridge which is under counter height, but wider than 60cm! Its not in a kitchen though, but freestanding in a bar, so trying to remember the width 🤔 Not sure if a wine fridge would get cool enough for your needs though.
There are also fridge drawers, but they are expensive!

What about the opposite wall? Or around the corner?

I would actually rather lose a window than have an undercounter fridge

Pipplet · 06/02/2024 19:37

Thank you for the suggestions of alternatives, I'll look into them.
Definitely has to be under counter. Putting the fridge in front of a window would look extremely weird! I'm totally fine with squatting to look in the fridge, it's no bother. It's just the size.

And to pp who asked, probably something like 80-90cm I guess. Just a bit bigger would be fine!

We have under-counter - we just had the standard 60cm - I thought as there was just two of us it would be fine - I had to add another - it just was not big enough - I had it installed next to the first one (lost a cupboard). We do manage to fill both.
