Are these woodworm beetles? Arghhh

Hi everyone… really hope you can help. We moved into an old house in the Summer last year and since then have repeatedly seen lots of these kinds of beetles. Like 5+ a day sometimes which I then dispose of. They are mostly alive sometimes dead.

We have had a woodworm and damp specialist in who sprayed the attic as there had been evidence of historic woodworm and it was part of our mortgage agreement - but to be honest he seemed really incompetent - and although we have a warranty I can tell it’s going to be a challenge to get him back to spray again or try a different treatment. These beetles appear mostly in the bathroom but sometimes in the kitchen, and I’m trying to identity that what are? Are they woodworm? Or could they be plaster beetles ? (We installed ventilation in the bathroom but previous to that it was mouldy and damp)

Can anyone help? Skin crawls at the thought of these beetles……

That looks like vine weevil to me? Squash them please as their grubs kill plants by munching on the roots! I hate the critters.

aitchteeaitch · 05/02/2024 15:43

How big are they OP?

Skincrawlingatthethought · 05/02/2024 21:02

I did think that was a possibility…. But feel like their legs aren’t substantial enough to be vine weevil (?) and too small (?) - they’re about 3mm I reckon….

When we had woodworm the beetles looked a bit flatter & not as long legs as those.
Get a pest controller to take a look maybe?

Weevils have distinctive heads. Do yours have them?

Weevils have a long narrow snout projecting from the head, with a pair of short, jointed antennae toward the middle of this snout. This provides them with a distinctive appearance. Weevils are generally dull tannish brown or grey, but sometimes have carapace that is red, green, or shiny black.

EDIT - This link has images of different wood borers, including one that likes very damp wood

Doesn't look like woodworm, death watch or woodborer.

I'm thinking of weevils as well.

Thank you all so much for your replies - really appreciated!
Hoping they’re weevils then ( I know not great to have an infestation of those either, but better than the thought of house being eaten away!!)
Think I will call in a different pest control company tomorrow and get them to take a look

Woodworm beetles fly towards the windows. Are they doing that?
