Has anyone had sound proofing installed in their housing association property?

I live in a housing association flat and the sound proofing is terrible! Since new neighbours moved in it has been constant noise. The HA agree that the property needs sound insulation, but from a logistical and feasibility standpoint the works that have been recommended would be very disruptive to the tenants upstairs and costly.

I am aware it be a lot of money, but I absolutely love my flat so I am willing to cover the cost/inconvenience to have the soundproofing installed in my flat.

I am really looking for anyone who has had a similar experience, can make recommendations or any helpful guide and tips.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

I am in the exact same boat as you, please let me know if you go forward with soundproofing your flat and the expenses

I’m sure there was a recent housing ombudsman case on sound proofing recently. Have a look through recent decisions.

Thanks for responding to the message.

I am becoming aware that this (crazy idea of mine!!) will be quite a long process. So far, I have obtained 3 quotes from builders and based on the housing trust guidelines, as long as it is internal renovations, that will improve the value of the home, then if a request is made then it should be approved.

At this stage, I now have to prepare a full proposal and setting out why the work is needed (even though they know this) with a full breakdown of the cost etc. Will keep you posted.

@CornishTiger Thanks for responding, I will have another search, but I have not come across any recent news/articles about similar cases that relate to social housing properties.

was Noise presence before these new neighbours. What flooring do they have installed.

janii2010 · 17/02/2024 21:14

@CornishTiger there was everyday noise a small family, it was liveable noise. It will always be a family unit, just need to decrease the noise for me to be able to walk around without headphones, as it’s very disturbing.
