Flight path - Dulwich/ Herne Hill/ Camberwell

Just moved into our new property and lo and behold we are under the landing flight path for Heathrow. Had absolutely no idea - Heathrow is 15 miles away and this was just not something we were thinking about when we were viewing the property. The planes fly so low and its constant one after the other.

Anyone also under this flight path? How do you cope with the noise?

Wondering how you've got on 18 months in? A lot of people here say you get used to it, but my sense is that none of them live between northern and southern approaches, and therefore none hear planes all day. It would be rather harder to get used to it when it is every minute all day, rather than just half the day...

Hello, we got more used to it now, but we had the house valued and planning to move out. Our baby wakes up at the noise, and my older daughter is a bit bothered by it. It’s better than before though.

human physiology means you will become "conditioned" to regular noise even if of intermittent frequency

That said when I live a LOT closer to Heathrow than you I became conditioned to being unable to get to sleep until the 11pm departure had passed overhead,

Sounds like a plan :) Sorry though that it’s come to having to move...MPs should really be made aware of the damaging affects that the ever-increasing concentration of Heathrow’s flightpaths has on communities (and health!!)

The further south you go, the more out of the firing line you’ll be for arrivals. If you found yourself in Poets Corner for instance, you would only hear planes on the southern approach to Heathrow (so for half the day) but even these won’t be directly overhead as they fly over Loughborough junction, and this will help massively. Planes would then seem sporadic in nature, rather than every 2 mins; in short, you won’t notice them. The real difficulty is when planes are a constant feature of your environment, when there is no let up or respite.

Have you noticed at all any difference between mornings and afternoons at the mo? Or is it the same loudness all day?

Mornings - the first ones at 6am or so - wake us up, so it just psychologically grinds. Especially if I’ve been up at night with the baby. Other than that, only if I’m in the loft. I’m very sensitive to noise, I hate lots of sounds, but I’ve got used to this.

Its the more general stuff - crack house on the same road, people leaving human faeces on doorsteps in the street (hasn’t happened to us yet) amazon packaged getting stolen etc etc.

Shame when you spend an absolute fortune on a house and mortgage!
