Anyone applied for a mortgage recently? Payslips after unemployment

What paperwork does a mortgage broker want to see these days?

My brother, unemployed for three years, has finally been working for four months. Him and my mum are convinced that a mortgage approval will be just a formality. Hopefully he'll be able to put down a 70% deposit.

I have suggested it might not be that straightforward and have been firmly placed in the bad daughter/jealous sibling corner.

Any recent experience about employment history periods and P60s.

It's usually easier if you've been in the employment for at least 6 months so i'd tell him to wait a bit

Is he on probation? If so he will need to wait until it’s over. If his probation has ended 3 months and a contract will be enough

There are lenders that will take probation, he just needs a good mortgage broker who will know which lenders will accept it

Thank you Harvey, he's off to see something promising and cheaper tomorrow.
He's a bloody nightmare but I hope it all works out.

I mean, if he is only borrowing 30% of the value of the house, it is a very different prospective from the more common scenario of needing to borrow 90% of the value.
