Maidenhead Help

Looking for any advice on areas of Maidenhead. Buying a house there for various reasons. I know there are lovely villages around but for practical sake we need to be in Maidenhead.

Looking at options in Aldebury Road, Powney Road, Queensway and Hungerford Road. They all seem quite different but are they nice?

Nice as in no anti social behaviour, tidy, quiet and living amongst working families.

How bad is the noise of small plane airport in Cox Green?

Budget will not stretch to Altwood or Pinkneys Green. Has to be a house not flat or masionette.

Really appreciate anyones thoughts.

I live in Cox Green.
The light aircraft come into land over my house and barely make any noise as they are pretty much gliding as they come into land and are still at a few hundred feet.
I really enjoy watching the aircraft especially when there are WWII Spitfires and Hurricanes flying about.

I'm not quite sure where Aldebury Road is but the other 3 Roads are in ok areas. If I had to put them in order of (my) choice I'd go for Powney, Hungerford and Queensway.

I don't know if schools are an issue for you but Hungerford and Queensway would be in catchement for Furze Platt Senior School. My 4 all went through there with no real problems, although youngest left 2 years ago now so could have changed. There's a parade of shops near Hungerford, and a smaller parade on Queensway. Queensway is within about 5 minutes walking distance of Furze Platt train station.

Powney Road would be in catchment for Alwyn infant school and Courthouse Juniors. It's in St Mark's area which has many families with children, some local shops, a small hospital, and is about a 30 minute (or less) walk into town. We lived in this area when our kids were young and it was lovely. Made lots of friends with similar age children.

There has been some local opposition to the noise of planes from White Waltham airfield but I'm with @couchplato on this one! I like hearing and seeing them, and in any case, you do get used to them.

Generally speaking, Maidenhead is a pretty safe (if not all that exciting!) area to live in. Lots of redevelopment going on, some nice new restaurants in town, lots of pretty villages nearby, easy access to M4, Elizabeth Line into London etc.

Let us know how you get on!

Weirdly I know off 3 people who live in Portlock Road in Maidenhead. Lovely pretty road, close to railway station. Near St Mark’s hospital I believe.

Yes it is, it's close to Powney Road too - just one road over I think. Interesting you know 3 people who live there! I used to know 2 people, and now know 1 living there!

@MaidenheadDw Thank you and everyone for your thoughts. Aldebury Road is in North town looks like a newish estate and there is a part called Green Leys?

I much prefer Cox Green but partner will not compromise on the noise. Says he cannot sit outside and relax with the noise. Have taken him to several houses in different parts of the suburb but as soon as he sees a plane, he just says no.

He wants to live in the St Marks area but to me, it feels too built up (obviously its a town centre). It's so difficult

I think I know where Aldebury Road is now but it's not an area I know well. As far as I know it's nice, and not too far to local shops in Shifford Crescent.

St Marks is about a mile/mile and a half outside the town centre. It's built up in the sense that there are lots of streets with Victorian terraces and semis so it feels closely packed if that makes sense. But it's an area with lots of young couples and families so there's a nice community feel to it. It's also quite close to a couple of parks - Oaken Grove and Boyne Hill. It's walking distance to the thicket and Pinkneys Green to so lots of nice walks.

Honestly trust me, your husband will get used to the plane noise. It would be a shame to miss out on a house. Nit always best to have such a narrow search area.

The noise isn't noticeable at all... I grew up in woodlands park so right next to the airfield and I'd say the only time the noise is noticeable is when there is the air show (once a year) it's just light aircraft so nothing like the noise from an actual airport.

Hi. I know its an old post but wanted to ask...

We are putting our house on the market in London after Christmas and am starting search around relocating to Maidenhead.
DS is in specialist secondary near railway station, need to find mainstream secondary for DD with good pastoral care. Viewed Altwood and seems a caring and nurturing school. Also DH and myself need to commute into London so max 30 min walk to station. Also, budget is £650-700k for 3 bedroom. Altwood area has houses in that region. Would people prefer Furze Platt area? Would be good to find semi at least as DS is autistic and can be loud in the garden so will need understanding neighbours, but suppose this will come down to luck!
Thanks so much!
