Any Estate Agents Out There

Hi there

First time posting so please forgive me if this post is a bit confusing.

I put an offer on a property and went ahead to secure a BTL which was accepted, the house does need some light works but nothing major, bit of plastering, painting and carpet. The broker viewed the photos and did an online tour of the house and said it shouldn't be a problem as long as it has a working kitchen and bathroom all should be fine, as it has both of these, i didn't envisage a problem. However the valuation surveyor phoned the Estate Agent and was told that they believe the house is not suitable to be rented out in its current condition and wouldn't pass the valuation. So the Valuation Officer cancelled making a booking. This all happened yesterday at 5pm and i haven't contacted the Estate Agent or broker yet? Im wondering if anyone is an Estate Agent out there and can give me any advice before i speak to either of them and what my best option is as i still want to purchase the house as with a little tidy up its a great house.

Any advice is welcomed, I would love to know if this has happened to anyone else before and what the outcome was? Or from any Estate Agents out there with any advice. I'm truly grateful for any help.

Thanks Sophia

Sounds like the estate agent wants an actual owner who will live in the house to buy it rather than someone who fancies a second home and thinks painting/carpeting over major defects will make it habitable to rent to someone else who pays for the privilege. 🤷‍♀️ Good on him or her.

Requiring "a little tidy up" is not reason enough for the Valuation Officer to declare the property unsuitable for renting.
I really wouldn't have thought you needed to come on here to be told that ? No wonder some Landlords get such a negative attitude, from the non parasitic, general public.

Ugh - the property must be in a right state for the surveyor to deem it unsuitable to be rented out. Think a future landlord would need to do more than some light works.

Feel so sorry for tenants having to put up with shoddy living conditions.
