Bathroom patterned tiles- how to cover?

Our downstairs toilet is tiled floor to ceiling with awful ugly tiles. Even worse they are patterned so the indents would likely be visible even through tile paint.

There are so many other things the house needs that I can’t afford to spend loads on this but don’t want to live with the worlds ugliest tiles. What can I do?!

Oh thank you! And would I just cover the entire wall from floor to ceiling in this? Does this seem like a job a handyman could do?

A good diyer would be able to do it, so a handyman should be able to.

It says moisture resistant, but even so I wouldn’t recommend MDF in a bathroom.

It’s a downstairs toilet, so not going to be subjected to steamy condensation from a shower or anything. It will be fine.

In your place (and I am) I'd paint them (and I did). Tile paint can be a temporary solution, but it doesn't look like 'real' tiles. I have awful dark greeny-brown, textured bathroom tiles- it's fully tiled as well, which I hate. After about 3 years or so I couldn't stand it any longer and painted them cream. It's a definite improvement, but not exactly a thing of beauty and a joy forever. I look forward to the day when I can get rid of the lot, replaster, and just have the bits that need tiles tiled, with plain tiles.

BTW, you do tend to get some condensation in a loo. It's the cold water in the cistern that does it. I'd not use MDF, myself, except for a temporary solution, and even then it would need painting with something water-resistant- I suspect even painting the tiles would look better. And MDF wouldn't be cheap compared to tile paint. But if you do use MDF, make sure to cut it, or have it cut, outside, and whoever is cutting it should wear a mask as well. The dust can be very bad for you.
