What colour kitchen

I’m looking to change our kitchen sometime in the next year or two and I’m stuck on what colour to go for.
Kitchen is north facing with an east facing door. It also gets a small amount of light from the adjoining dining rooms east facing window. The fridge freezer and pantry style cupboards are in the dining room area too. We won’t change these units but can change the doors to match the new kitchen.
All the lights are on in these pictures.
I think a dark colour would just be too oppressive since the room is pretty small. I’m stuck on what would work though. Gloss white is a definite no though!
What do you think?

I think it's really nice already and am not sure why you want to change it! It looks quite new and in good condition.

How about using the money that you were planning to spend on a new kitchen, to install a Velux roof light (if the kitchen doesn't have a room above it) or a sun tunnel (if there is a room above it)? Both options would increase the amount of light and make it feel brighter.

Add more lighting and everything will seem warmer and brighter.

We think it was fitted in the late 90’s/early 00’s and is starting to fail. The doors are starting to peel, there are only one set of drawers and the rest is small cupboards.
The floor and tiles were replaced by the last owner so are new. We’d keep the floor.
Theres nothing drastically wrong with it just not very functional.
A velux would be a good idea as there’s nothing above.
I have considered stripped the laminate off the doors and painting them but that doesn’t fix the layout issues.
And I’m still stuck for colour.

You seem to have blinds on your windows, which won't be helping with the light, id get rid. Is it a Bush outside the window? Is it blocking light? Or, can you paint whatever us there to bounce the light in?
I'd also look at ways of getting rid of wall cabinets, they make kitchens feel blocky and cut light. I'd look at open shelving, and if you do have wall units, take them to the ceiling, makes more sense than a small space at the top.
Colour wise, what do you like? Sometimes it's best to gobwith the dark, if thecroom is already dark. Then add plenty of lighting. Or, if thats not your thing, maybe a very very pale grey? You can chose just about any colour, but the layout will make the biggest difference.
