Serious house regret 2 years on

Just really posting for some sympathy I guess. Moved 2 years ago to a little village. About 1 hour from our last house. The house needed everything doing and a complete reconfiguration to make it work. It’s still a building site and I just feel so down. I feel like we’ve struggled to be happy since we moved and look back so wistfully on our tiny old house. There’s been no end of issues with the builders, it’s taken forever and we’ve now run out of money. I hate thr house but there is no way we can sell it until we have renovated it and I feel trapped. Please someone tell me it will get better….

Sorry you are feeling this way, not surprised when you have had building work troubles and run out of money! Don’t be hard on yourself, things up will get better.nakso I had a friend who sold her house easily when it was still a renovation project though not in this current market.

Do you like the village and do you think the house will be nice once the building work is finished? When everything has been done and you can stop living in a building site.

We're in a house currently which is half renovated, and the builders are due back in a month or so to do the other half, which will be very messy. I don't like living here now. We've boarded off parts of the house to avoid our dog and toddler getting into them. There's stuff everywhere. It doesn't feel very clean, and we feel we are constantly cleaning.

I can see it'll be nice when done though. We prioritised doing a bathroom, our bedroom, toddler room, and a room to be used for a lounge/office. And I do like the new area, and our neighbours seem really nice. The work left to do, and the money side, feels massively overwhelming though.

If you don't like the village, and you don't like the house (even when it's done to your spec) I'd probably be inclined to think about selling it. Or at least pivoting and thinking about finishes that will sell well and are affordable. Give a couple of estate agents in the area a call and also them to value it and advise whether better to sell now in your area, or sell once renovated.
