Feature wall advice

We are looking to make the wall with the fireplace on a feature wall (dark green with rest of the room white). Which colour would you do the corner pipe boxing (red X)? And I assume the bay would be white?
Thanks 🙂

I know it's not what you want yo hear, but, I think painting just 1 wall in your room will make that wall feel really oppressive. It looks to be a fairly long and narrow space and i think your wall might be overbearing.

I'd be tempted to either paint it all in a dark colour and lean into the cosy side, or, keep it neutral and bright.

If you want green, I'd maybe look to add some lovely leafy plants instead?

No doubt someone will come along and disagree, and if you really want green, go for it. If that's the case, I'd run the green into the alcove and probably paint the post white, the wall is quite long.

I'd agree with PP and do the whole room, but I'm not a fan of a feature wall. It would be lovely and cosy.

However I would do the box in the same colour as that wall. It looks like you're more likely to look at it face on and that will help it blend into the wall.

With a green feature wall I would do the others in a warm white,so not so stark. And paint the corner in the white.

Our lounge is a lovely soft sage green on all four walls, it's very comforting, everyone always comments on it. If you only use the green as a feature wall, I'd go with a soft cream, white always seems so harsh for a lounge. The great thing with paint, if you don't like it you can always repaint it.

@Shutterbye Ideally you want your fireplace central so looking at the photo I would paint the boxed pipe in green as that takes the paint to the actual wall you are painting a different colour.

The way to choose before you commit is to paint some paper either a few sheets printer paper or some lining paper, paint that and blu tac that up and see how you feel about it for a couple of days. Painting lining paper is a great way to work out whether the paint works in different light, ie through out the day and the with lights on before painting an entire room.

There is a new thing where only sections of walls are painted rather than a whole wall which you may or may not like. You can either centre it or offset it.

Re the white be careful as it can look very cold against a bold colour and pay attention to the undertone of the white, some are pinky, some are yellow, some a blue. Depending on which way your room faces (north, west etc) depends on how the colour looks. I have Jasmine White and it looks totally different in a north facing room to the south facing room.

i think painting just that wall would make the room feel narrower and oppressive. Agree with the PP who said to add some plants for greenery and life. Putting some art or books/bookshelf on the wall opposite the window would square off the room and give it more life too.
