UPVC for period house

The windows are in good nick and are original 1904. Casement, lots of small panes in the upper windows.

But it's cold with the single glazing and the extra sound proofing would be good.

It's a good looking double fronted house in a conservation area.

What questions should I be asking double glazing companies - what should I be looking for. I want them to look nice when they are done!

Is the house listed? Also a house in a conservation may need permission so you’ll need to run that past your local area planning officer. You will probably have to go like for like or secondary glazing ?

You'll probably need to go through planning. We did to be on safe side. We are also in conservation area but there are others in village with UPVC so you may well be allowed them just best to get signed off via planning.

We are going to go for heritage windows - traditional in style and colour and with a wood effect so they won't stand out at all.

I think we want heritage style. But 8 don’t know what to be asking to get them to look nice.

yes w3 do need planning.

You could just get the single glass replaced with double glazed units and keep the current wooden frames?

I live in a conservation area and the council will not approve any form of UPVC replacement windows around here, even houses that had them previously ripped out have to replace with timber in the original style. You need to have a chat with the conservation officers at your council first who will direct you.
