Pregnant and need help with council house application

Idk if this is in the right section but I need help

So I'm 21 and currently 11 weeks pregnant and I recently applying for social housing for council and j filled my details about me and ticked that I'm pregnant and my due date and that I currently work part time

But I'm stuck on one section that they require to prove that where I live now is overcrowded and unsuitable for a baby

So I live with my mum, her partner and his son and my two half siblings and I also rent a room in a HMO but I only stay there once a month so I don't count myself living there so I didn't include it in the application

I work part-time and I do get UC but not alot and payments vary every month

But anyway so I'm stuck on the part where you add additional household members including children
But I cant seem to add anyone without a national insurance number I don't know my mums and her partners national insurance number and I would rather not ask and I know my mum wouldn't know she hasn't worked for over 20 years and her partner is carer for his parents I know he would know his but that's personal information

But I can't seem to add my siblings who are only 5 and 6 years old as I need to add a NI number but they haven't even got one as they not 16 yet and it's same with my mum's partners son he's only 14

My mum currently doesn't know about my pregnancy only her partner does who happens to find a hanging test out my bag and questioned it

I can't put in n/a or na to say I don't know I can't continue because it wants a national insurance number for each person

I can't stay in my shared accommodation as I won't be able to continue being a tenant there with a baby I have 5 other roommates I will be told to leave
So I need to hand in my notice soon but I can't stay at my parents because there not even room for a cot as I share room with my 5 yo sister

I also haven't added my boyfriend as joint yet he works full time and earns way more than 200 a week I feel his earning will affect the application they think I'm not in criteria even though I earn only around 80-100 a week

My bf has no knowledge of how housing and tenancies work he doesn't know where to start

Please help do I ring them up for assistance because it order to increase my list in brand I need to prove it's overcrowd I need to move out atleast before this child pops out of me

Please help

OP - I only know relating to London boroughs but you are not usually considered overcrowded (from a pregnancy perspective) until baby is here, and even then, often the choice is temporary (hotel type) accommodation for several weeks to months, before a placement. Overcrowding is a consideration, but, unless there is conflict in the home - generally even if you share a room you’ll still be considered housed (even once baby arrives) so won’t be top banding. Have you consulted shelter?

If you are paying rent in shared accommodation, could you look for something more suitable? Have you used the entitled to tool to think about UC and housing payment?

Hermittrismegistus · 19/01/2024 00:03

This sounds dodgy as fuck.

Are you paying council tax on your rented HMO room? If so, you're going to find it very, very difficult to prove you are actually living with your mother.

lipinkmagic · 19/01/2024 00:04

From your circumstances listed, I doubt you will be moved, having a baby means next to nothing these days, unless you're literally out on the street.

Gingerkittykat · 19/01/2024 00:10

Why are you continuing to rent a room in an HMO if you stay only one night a month? It sounds like fraud, both because I assume UC is paying your rent and you are lying on a housing application.

The council could look at your mum's council tax bill and see you are not registered as living there.

Babyandmexox · 19/01/2024 00:12

I would phone the council and get them to help with your application or citizens advice. But being housed by council is so difficult these days.. you won't even be considered a priority until the baby is 6 months old. So I think making an appt might be a good chance to fully explain your situation as the application usually takes a few month to process so if you've made any mistakes and not gone into depth about your situation they could decline your application just with you having basically 2 places to live, that will be from their point of view. Good luck 🤞

Babyroobs · 19/01/2024 00:14

Are you claiming UC rent element to rent a room that you only stay in once a month? Why not just look for a one bed flat to rent with your boyfriend ? Sounds like you just want to make out you are a single parent to be, get social housing then have your bf move in ?

DragonFly98 · 19/01/2024 00:17

Your address is the HMO you will be committing fraud if you don't list it.

crumblingschools · 19/01/2024 00:18

Is being pregnant a good idea?

WithACatLikeTread · 19/01/2024 00:25

Technically you live elsewhere though so you wouldn't be classed as overcrowded. The council will find out one way or another.

Doxxy · 19/01/2024 00:41

Do you have a partner? You are very young to be having a baby especially when you don't have anywhere to live. It's going to be extremely difficult.

Is there a reason you haven't told your Mum?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/01/2024 00:45

Why can't you get a place with your partner?
I can't see how you wouldn't be committing fraud with the circumstances you've quoted

EverleighMay · 19/01/2024 00:46

I used to be a local authority Housing Officer. Tell us the full/real story and I'm sure we'll be able to help.

Sophieloulou110 · 26/07/2024 03:08

Hi so I've been on birmingham City council for three years I applied in 2021 when my child was three months old im currently living in a one bedroom small flat and I'm on band c im always 100 to 1000 bid they don't class my child as a person he is currently sleeping in the living room with me and my partner the council don't care honestly I have a bedroom which is unusable due to mold and they won't move me even though I'm now pregnant again it's a joke if your living with your mom I don't believe they will move you my friend has just had a little boy herself and is living with her mom and dad along with her boyfriend in a small room and they won't house her because he can share the same room untill the age of ten which is a joke

yhk · 26/07/2024 03:19

Your plan is to try to apply for social housing, when you already rent a HMO that you stay in once a month, you are omitting your partner from the application because of how much money he earns, so you can secure a tenancy and have him slip in onto it after?

I think you not being able to get your mother's NI number is the least of your worries.

Thelastbitofketchup · 26/07/2024 06:30

Alternative heading ‘can’t do fraud as easily as I wanted, help me to’

PragmaticWench · 26/07/2024 06:46

The form above says to enter 'na' if you don't have a NI number.

janeintheframe · 26/07/2024 06:49

Yeah op. Don’t get yourself in trouble here. No one is going to believe you are a low income person who rents a room for one night a month. And keeping your boyfriend off so you can get a home is also fraudulent if he’s going to live with you.

User364837 · 26/07/2024 06:55

In answer to the question you actually asked…!

If entering na doesn’t work, I would probably try putting in AA000000A or something and see if that goes through. It will be obvious to them it’s not a real NI number

WitchyBits · 26/07/2024 07:13

Jesus chest, this is fraud!! You are already housed in the HMO for gods sake.

I was 21 having my first and yes many things change, however you are already prepared to lie to the council to get a place by hiding you already have a room to stay at but chose not to in the HMO. It sounds like you only rent the room to claim UC otherwise I don’t understand why you would just stay there once a month? You are 21 so why would you hide a pregnancy from your mum?
if you are mentioning what your partner earns and if causing an issue with you getting social housing obviously you are planning on living together but as a single person and hiding it from UC. All of this sounds like fraud and finding a way to get as much money you can and get to get your rent paid when as a couple you may be able to afford it when so many others on waiting lists are living in crowded conditions and not working, just you are taking advantage of being pregnant. You should be getting a private rented place that is affordable for yourself and your partner instead of scamming the system and expecting mums who actually need the help to support and advise you.

Hi so I need a little bit of advice.
Im 16 and expecting my first child in a few months.
I live with my parents and siblings, I share a room with both of my sisters so there is not much room for a baby and I’m just wondering if I’d be able to apply for a council flat/home?
I’ve tried to do some research and I just find myself stressing over it constantly.

I think you'd be better off starting your own thread, as a lot of people will just reply to the first post on the thread, which is by someone in a different situation.

Hi lovely, you'll probably get better answers if you start a new thread with your question. People tend to just read the post at the start of the thread, then answer that instead of reading down to your post.

I'm afraid I don't know much about council housing. You can certainly apply, but I don't think you'll be classed as a priority so it could take time (unless you are unable to stay where you are, then it would be emergency housing).

Do you have anyone supporting you as a young parent to be? (Like social services or specialist midwife/ health visitor team) They might be able to support your application or find a more specialised service for people your age.
