Does my energy bill sound right?

This month, our energy bill is just over £400.

We're a 5 bed detached but don't heat one of the bedrooms.
Keep the house at 17.5 in the day and 15 at night.
There's a fair amount of glass with no curtains on the downstairs rooms.
There's 2 adults and 2 young kids. We average a wash every other day and use the tumble drier twice a week.

My parents have a similar sized house, but keep it much warmer and pay far less.

Does this sound right?

What is the breakdown gas and electric and how many kWh of each

I have certainly heard of £10 a day for sone people although ours is rather smaller

It does sound quite high but your house does sound quite big. What does it average in the summer months?

Sounds reasonable

What was it last year ?

Have you come off a fixed price tariff or something ?

£10 a day does not sound extreme for an older house with lots of glass.

There are so many variables. For example in your OP you don't state whether your heating is gas, electric, heat pump etc.

Your parents might have a well insulated new build vs. your 1930s place.

Our smart meter display says ours is about £12-13 a day at the moment and we heat to 18 in the day and off all night. So yes I'd say about right for this time of year in a large detached house.

It sounds about right to me. Mine has just gone up from £270 a month to £340 it’s a 4 bed 1950s detached with people home all day so the heating’s on a lot though turned off at night. We don’t heat one bedroom either. A bigger house or older one could easily cost more to heat. My sister has a conservatory and her heating bill was excessive so she turned the radiator off in that room which helped. Maybe try turning your heating off at night if you want to reduce the bill?
