Conservatory roof insulation panels

We’re goi g to view a house, and it has a large side conservatory that’s open to other rooms. It looks freezing!
has anyone upgraded a standard conservatory roof with the insulated panels? Did they help with warmth? How much did it cost?
any info gratefully appreciated, just trying to work out additional costs of this property.

I think most people just knock down conservatories with those roofs now and replace with proper extensions, or reinstate the original external wall and doors.

Yes I was thinking the same, lots of money though for an extension.

Depends which way it faces, we get a lot of solar gain from ours when the sun eventually decides to show its face. But in the winter we do have sliding doors/french windows pretty much closed.

Relative has just upgraded their old polycarbonate roof with lightweight tile and insulation.....£18k or so. But it has made a big difference to the temperature, and their conservatory-now-sunroom is open to the kitchen.

Thanks @Noseyoldcow , did they keep the same side windows? We wouldn’t be able to close it off in winter as it’s open to lots of living space. Alternative is to have it taken down I guess?

The windows and the doors were replaced - instead of casement type fixed glass windows with small openers at the top,i.e 2 panels, the windows have been replaced with larger single panel top hinged windows, so the whole window opens, with doors to match. Double glazing has improved since the originals were installed, so I'm guessing its a bit more energy efficient, but not that much. Ventilation in the summer should be better with more glass area to open.

Yes used silver backed foil insulation panels slotted in between the ceiling joists and then plasterboard sheets over them to form a lower ceiling . Cost a few hundred pounds and made a big difference to heat loss

Thank you, that’s really helpful
