Does anyone have a picture of an open plan room that’s around 9m x 3.8m. Planning a kitchen at one end, living area at other and dining table in middle (hopefully) but just can’t work out how to lay out the kitchen part. Wall isn’t down yet which doesn’t help. Thanks

I think it will be a bit cramped, especially the kitchen. In your shoes I would expand the area given to kitchen, move the dining table further into the sitting space (may need to turn the other way) and accept a smaller sitting area, maybe one small sofa and an armchair/pouffe.

If you have a generous sitting area & tv in your kitchen, I can tell you that the separate lounge never gets used…

Agree. We have 11m x 3.5 and did exactly this as also have a separate lounge like you do. Our kitchen layout is similar to what you have proposed with a wide peninsula and bar stools. We have most meals here, kids sit here and work/do arts etc.

We currently have a small dining table, sofa and some toys because children are younger side and still like to be where I am! As they grow up, there will be a much longer dining table and probably just an armchair as the children are the only ones who play.

We designed it so the kitchen would be everything we want in the long term and the rest is flexible as children grow and needs change

Thanks @prescribingmum Can I ask what layout you decided on for your kitchen area? I’m struggling to see many photos of long narrower room layouts.

Sorry @Susieblue18 I have only just seen your post. Our kitchen is designed very similar to the plan you posted but takes up closer to half the area rather than dividing it into 3. Sink is across the window and hob on the wall at the end, tall units are behind the sink and we have the peninsula (which is wide and used to eat at)

This is mine. We think it works well

What paint colour is that?

If you’re not sure about the space, you could really quickly mock it up in 3D using the kitchen planner from DIY Kitchens. It allows you to look at the whole room in 3D and add the furniture so you can get a better feel for how it would work.

I have similar layout and wondering if i can remove the kitchen wall and place an island but afraid it will be too small. Any help?

We have a kitchen with a peninsula breakfast bar and lounge. It might all look a bit too cramped with a dining area too I think.

AE9193 · 23/02/2024 22:46

What are the dimensions?

percypal · 23/02/2024 22:56

We are having to have the table in the kitchen OR dispense with the living area. We will probably have the table in the kitchen as the living area is important.

Dear all, great ideas up there. We have just build a 5 x 9 metre room for a open plan living kitchen dining room (would like to have an island but not sure will that make it too cramped as want to keep the dining table). It's a rectangle room as you enter, and at the ends we have the patio sliding doors (5 meter side) Can I please ask for help with the layout suggestions as seriously struggling - if you have similar size, how have you designed it? pic would hugely help. Many thanks x

P.s the entrance door is not up as the wall is only half built from the left yet so it can move one space to the right not absolute in the middle but we can save the corner? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Gymnoob · 20/01/2025 23:54

This would be the equivalent of our kitchen in yours.

Yellow - low units and worktop
Red - full height with integrated fridge etc towards kitchen side and open shelving towards dining side
Green - Super long rectory table with church pew or inbuilt bench seating (kind of acts as an island alternative for socialising or extra prep space)
Black doors move down to make more space and will be opposite entry door so more light/ views etc.
