Moving as a hoarder

Hi all, not sure if posting in the right place!

I'm due to move in around 2 months. I need tips on how to do it stress free, the last time I moved was awful and I never wanted to do it again.

But I have to leave my house as its full of mould, crumbling ceilings and faulty electrics... I'm already stressed thinking about it. My main issue is I am a hoarder, not to the point I can't move around my house. My hoards are kept hidden and neat (I mostly hoard books, clocks and sewing machines) my family came last year and helped me declutter but I know I have a lot to go.

Any tips to make the move easier? I'm not sure if I'm more stressed about moving or knowing I'm moving to a smaller house, where I won't be able to take as much as I'd like with me.

(I am getting help for my hoarding and ocd, its a slow process)

Thank you in advance 😊

Do you have the funds to rent a storage unit? You can put your collections there and sort them at a slower pace. This will take the pressure off you plus you will be in your new home and have a much better idea of how much room you actually have available.

Are there any "easier" wins? If you have duplicates of books or sewing machine parts could you give them away?

I think labelling boxes carefully could be very important, so that when you move you can tell at a glance which boxes contain things that you will need everyday and which contain items you want to keep but can remain in boxes for a little longer.

Would highly recommend self storage, move your collections into it and sort through them as and when you can

Can you not see it as an opportunity for a fresh start, new collections?
I intend to start from what items in each room I want to take, rather than the other way around.

I’m a bit hardcore from having helped my mum move. What do you actually need, what do you love best? Take that. Leave the rest.

Please don’t make yourself miserable by being obliged to keep and protect possessions. The vast majority of things can be replaced if you really need them later.

Are you asking about how to get rid of stuff or how to store it?
