Hi all - Was planning to get Worcester Bosch but builder now recommends Vaillant - fine? Any experience with that? Small two bed flat. TIA.

I have a vaillant, it was here when I moved in. Been here almost 7 years and no issues whatsoever. Frantically touching wood now 😂

TerfTalking · 08/01/2024 20:20

On my second, the first was still going strong 12 years in but I had a new kitchen and it made sense to upgrade it at the same time.

our plumber says he wouldn’t fit anything else.

Pigeonqueen · 08/01/2024 20:20

We’ve had ours nearly 12 years now. Had a couple of issues with a leak (water, not gas) in that time and a few things replaced but generally been good.

KievLoverTwo · 08/01/2024 20:41

I think WB are the recommended British brand and Valiant the German one. They have been going since before I visited their (UK) factory as a kid some 35 years ago. Often hear of them being recommended.

AIstolemylunch · 08/01/2024 20:45

We put a new boiler in our 5 bed house 4y ago and went with the Vailant one the heating company recommended and it's has been perfect, absolutely no issues (not a combi boiler as bigger house).

OhGetFucked · 08/01/2024 20:45

I've worked with boiler install companies and they all use Vaillant over every other brand.

MrsMoastyToasty · 08/01/2024 21:30

We have a Vaillant. I've just worked out we've had it 20 years and it's already been re-sited once when we extended the house. We also had one at my workplace and it was fine with a 3 storey office block.

Wrapunzel · 08/01/2024 21:46

Our vaillant is fabulous 👌

OhpoorMe · 08/01/2024 21:48

Vaillant are the gold standard, I'd go for that if you're going to be living there a long time

renovationcarroussell · 08/01/2024 23:23

Ok that sounds really good. Thanks all!

had a condenser 3 bed house and have never had a problem its a real work horse

had it 7yrs

FictionalCharacter · 09/01/2024 02:56

We have one and it's been excellent.

RogueFemale · 09/01/2024 03:15

Vaillant condesing combi boiler in the house I bought in 2017, think it was quite old back then, but it's still going strong.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/01/2024 07:40

We have a Vaillant combi boiler. It is over ten years old and the only issue we have had is the fan needed to be replaced last year. Other than that it is reliable, efficient and quiet.

Jins · 09/01/2024 07:53

We haven’t got a Vaillant but it was one of the two recommendations we were given last year when our old boiler broke down. Apparently they are much easier to work on than WB. We went with a Viessman in the end as it was slightly cheaper and works in a slightly different way and it’s been amazing. We’ve used half the gas we used last year.

NonmagicMike · 09/01/2024 08:23

We had this discussion a few years back but stuck with Worcester as we weren’t enclosing the boiler in a cabinet, and the greenstar 8000 looks really Modern and smart hung on the wall. Was a real struggle to get anyone to install it however, and a couple of gas men said they don’t do Worcester as they can be a real fiddle to install / support is bad. We found someone and it got installed and it’s been flawless for the two and a bit years we’ve had it. I’m sure Vaillant are reliable too and you’d expect any new boiler to last years really.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/01/2024 08:31

You can get slim wall hung Vaillant boilers, ours is. But it is a small combi as we only have a 2 bed flat to supy with heat and hot water.

@hannahcolobus that’s more or less what our fitter said last year but locally fitters seem to have moved to recommending Viessmann or sticking with Vaillant as they’ve seen problems with support from WB too. It’s a shame to see good products let down by poor support

Barnabyted · 09/01/2024 09:43

We looked at purchasing a Valliant or Worcester Bosch when we needed to replace our dreadful Vokera boiler a few years ago.
Our gas engineer recommended a Viessman, and to be honest, it has been absolutely brilliant and a lot cheaper than the others to buy.

GasPanic · 09/01/2024 10:50

I have a Valiant, wanted a WB but not available.

No issues with it. It is a small neat quiet unit and just works. It's much more efficient than the non condensing one it replaced, I would guess at least 20% more from the gas bills.

I wouldn't recommend the Ideal Standard it replaced though. That was very definitely built to a price. I think when houses are built the builders buy a huge job lot of the cheapest boilers possible and stick them in. Because no one really buys a house based on what type/quality of boiler is fitted.
