Inspire me with your bay window dressings please!

We have a bay window with roller blinds in each segment at the moment. They are starting to look a bit tatty and need replaced but would like something practical and stylish to replace them with. Shutters, blinds, curtains….I can’t decide. If you love your bay window, how have you dressed it? It’s a living room bay if that makes a difference. A bit of privacy would be useful but I love lots of
light.

We have roman blinds and I love them - still (about 3 years old). They were expensive (about £900) but worth every penny.

We have shutters at the back of the house and I think they're lovely too but I think you probably need to "match" shutters I.e. they look odd in just one window at the front. They're not enough on their own in bedrooms.

We have venetian wooden blinds - I don't think they are in fashion though
I think everyone is into cafe curtains now

Dianalouise · 07/01/2024 07:09

I had to google cafe curtains 😁 I don’t think they would work as they are single panes of glass or no natural break for the curtain to sit. (Plus I don’t really like how it looks!).
I do like the look of Roman blinds….id like something to give a bit more privacy during the day though…. I’m cringing at the thought of net curtains though…need some inspo!

@Dianalouise These ideas are from Ideal home.

I’ve seen loads of the half shutters in London. It’s a very popular solution when there’s a small front garden and people passing by on the street all the time. You open or shut them as you wish but even when open they enhance privacy.

Forget about lace curtains! Embrace sheer fabrics. I’ve actually got semi sheer Roman blinds. Again, privacy when you want it and you can put curtains over them
if you want to keep heat in and aid privacy in the evening. You can get sheer panels as in the picture.

Look at sheer fabrics by Harlequin for a starting point. Fantastic fabrics and not a lace curtain in sight!!

I meant to add that the Momentum range by Harlequin (1-4) will really inspire you. I’ve used Twist and Ribbon and I love them!

I agree if it's a single pain then cafe curtains or half shutters wouldn't look as good

For bay bedroom windows we have sheer voile nets (plain) and then curtains

Digimoor · 07/01/2024 09:54

pane!

We have blinds and curtains. I don't love the blinds but they were here when we moved in. Curtains are Ikea velvet ones. I bought two sets, sewed them together and added a ticking stripe to the bottom. They're just gathered but would could do a faux pinch pleat with special hooks from Ikea.

Also agree with cafe curtains, they're lovely.

We've got cafe style fitted blinds in the kitchen and love them. The other bays have full height blinds and as a result, the character is lost/masked.

Gosh those windows are gorgeous! And the blinds work well…I’m just conscious I dont have a natural break point in the window pane to put them else’s would definitely do that.

Sheer Roman blinds!! I’m quite taken with that idea…Hillary’s seem to have a voile Roman blind selection….I think I’d still need a heavier curtain too but this could be the combo I’m looking for…

Or maybe just voile floaty looking curtains on their own….its a north facing window so would be good to get as much light as possible….but wonder if it would be too light for cosy nights in during the winter…think I’d still need some kind of blind

We have wooden blinds and velvet cream curtains. Really neutral but nice both summer and winter.

TheBeef · 08/01/2024 13:04

Bays are so wide and long we have IKEA curtains in our bays.

We have Lill sheer curtains. I have turned them upside down and added curtain tape so they can be full drawn. Like another poster, we use two sets of velvet curtains on each window. Again, with curtain tape. No including track it works out to about £120 per window.

I like the look of the white cafe blinds.

TheBeef · 08/01/2024 13:05

If you use 3 pairs of Lill curtains I stead of two, this might give you the privacy you need.

TizerorFizz · 08/01/2024 13:51

@Dianalouise You can put the Roman blinds at the top of the windows and adjust up and down for privacy or more light. It’s possible to add curtains over the top. You can hang from the ceiling. Or close off the bay with curtains. Is your bay curved or a rectangle?
