How long should my curtains be?

Our house is a cottage with quite low ceilings and a very cottage look. I’m measuring for new curtains and trying to work out the best length- what works best in a house like this?

Imaged attached is a stock image but should give you an idea of what it’s like.

Thank you!

I'd go from underneath the curtain pole to a couple of inches off the floor. I don't like short curtains or ones that pool on the ground.

Use to live in a similar house. You want them nearly to the floor to give the illusion of bigger windows/ higher ceilings

Ive got a cottage and have curtains down to the floor as i prefer that look but we have underfloor heating so no radiator. It also depends on if you are placing furniture under windows or not.

Floor length. If you can’t have full length, go for Roman blind or similar.

If you look on Dunelm website there is a guide to measuring up different types of curtains and suggestions for which type is best for different situations, which you might fine helpful.

In the picture you offer, the curtains should be set higher above the window.
A cottage is the only type of house where you can "get away with" short curtains ie not floor length.
Do not have your curtains 2" off the floor. Known as "hingin'there like hingin' mince "

In an old house like mine with suspended floors I don't want curtains dragging on the floor, that would be asking for trouble trapping damp air right on the carpet behind them. And also the curtains would get worn on the bottom edge and wouldn't hang right. Maybe not 2", but at least 1" up.
Theatre curtains have to go right down to the floor because of the light, but the weights (a chain usually) are in a pocket with a bottom flap below so the weights don't wear a hole; even so, they do still get dirty on the bottom edge.

So if you have a radiator under the window, is the idea that the curtains must then be short because you have no choice? Or can they actually cover the radiator when closed?
