Which front door on 1950s ex-council house?

Please help me choose between this:

www.vufold.co.uk/external-front-doors/wooden-front-doors/stockholm/stockholm-oak-762mm

Or something like this:

Or any other suggestions that won't look OTT or pretentious on an unremarkable looking house.

The internal doors are all really nice quality oak and glass.

Echo second door, and I think your house is lovely it looks just like my grandparents' house when I was growing up, those houses are solid and spacious, my GPs had a good size garden with pear trees and a fish pond, so that's what I'm imagining is behind yours 😁

Delassalle · 30/12/2023 21:35

The first one is ghastly and completely out of character with the house.

I like the second one but please make sure it isn't going to be grey.

Ahh Fuzzy now I know where you live I'll be round for a cuppa

Terrific- can you bring some biscuits please? 😋

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/12/2023 21:41

And cake obviously

2nd

guineverehadgreeneyes · 30/12/2023 22:05

The first one is too modern. My neighbours have a similar one on their 1976 semi and it does not look in keeping with the age of the house.

But the second one looks more suitable for a 1930s house - and looks too old for your house.

I'd probably go for a door with two windows at the top, similar to the style of this one:

Definitely the second one. A squarer section of glazing seems to be more 50s.

I think the second one looks much more in keeping with a 1950s house

@AnOldCynic what excellent photos - interesting to see the small square panels

Definitely the 2nd. 1st looks like 1 on a new build.

TerfTalking · 31/12/2023 08:46

No shadow of doubt number two!

No, I don’t think that’s right. It’s too Victorian in style.

Maireas · 31/12/2023 09:39

The 2nd one, by miles.
The first one is awful.
Love all these green front doors. What a lovely change from grey!

Maireas · 31/12/2023 09:40

@FuzzyPuffling - love your house.

This is exactly what the 1950s ex council houses around here have, and the same small porch roof above. I repaired our original porch roof like this last year.
