Counter lights under wall units - recommend a wired in option?

We are fitting a kitchen and have an electrician around on Tuesday to fit the lights under the wall cabinets. IKEA have supplied plug in options but he is going to wire them in.

Can anyone recommend any? There must be an IKEA option and I can go there, although b&q is a closer option.

I think the answer is going to be for him to put plugs in the walls. Is that right???

Little bit confused as to what you’re trying to do. I get the under the cabinets bit, and these are the head height ones on the wall rather than the floor? There are thousands of options. You could hardwire in the lights absolutely. He’d run a simple radial circuit I’d imagine spurred off somewhere and then daisy chain the lights in. If you’re having gu10 spotlight style lights then they’ll just run off a switch somewhere.

if you’re going ikea you can get battery operated ones which wont need any wiring at all. Or, you can get plug in ones as you say. If going for that, you’ll likely have a power bank somewhere out of sight ontop of a cabinet and the wires will be concealed.

The answer all depends on what lights you’re buying?

Thank you. Indeed it is all about the lights. IKEA have supplied us with plug in ones but the electrician has left grey cables hanging out the wall for hardwiring ones in.

So we either need new lights or him to install sockets instead.

I can't find the lights for hardwiring easily on the internet. maybe a trip to b&q is the answer?

Nope. He’ll likely just cut off the plugs and then hardwire into the grey ones he’s left dangling. You don’t have to plug things in - if you wanted you could cut off the plug on your bedside lamp and hardwire into the electrical circuit, but that wouldn’t be very convenient every time you wanted to unplug it or put a new lamp in.

Speak to your electrician. We had IKEA lights which were hardwired in by the electrician so they could be operated by a wall light switch.
