We've bought a fairly reasonable one off facebook marketplace - unused

We're doing a mist coat on bare plaster then a base coat and a colour

Never used one before - Any hints or tips please?

I recently asked my local decorators store about this. They said, don't bother. It takes skill to use and takes forever to clean.

Sorry.

Maybe I'll be OK by the time I've done the whole house!!

3 coats for 5 rooms plus hall stairs and landing

<gulp>

Any other hints and tips?
Not using it is still a possibility

Honestly, I wouldn't. You need to mask up like there is no tomorrow, not just everything in the room except what you're painting, but yourself as well. Breathing in paint is a bad idea. And you do need a fair bit of skill to do it. I have done it at work in the past, but would never do it at home. At work we used a hefty compressor- a small one is no good. And the gun needs to be a good one as well.

I thought it would be like spray painting with a can

There is no flooring or furniture

Stand by for me eating my hat in a few days!

Advice would be put it back in the box and go buy some paint brushes. If you are going to have a go make sure you mask and cover the heck out of anything that you don’t want painted, including where the paint might blow to. Our neighbours had some ‘pros’ round last year to paint the outside of their house. They covered off all her windows fine but as the wind was blowing they gave the entirety of my house alongside my motorbike a mist coat. Very unhappy.

Although you’re indoors you’d be amazed what gets blasted! Having said that, I’m all up for trying most things once so good luck.

"Advice would be put it back in the box and go buy some paint brushes." this was the best advise ever!!

You were completely right - pointless and messy to clean up - roller is the way to go
