Shutters

I have had shutters fitted and I’m having to lift them slightly to close them. Is this normal please. Friends say no, but the company say you do. It’s only on the double ones.

Are you talking about window shutters or something else? And if windows, do you mean indoor ones, similar to blinds but fixed or outdoor type ones?

I have the indoor ones and never have to lift them. Sounds like there may be an issue.

Doesn't sound right to me. By double, I assume you mean that there are two shutter panels that meet in the middle of the window? I have one in my bathroom; it has been there for nearly a decade and I've never had a problem closing it. What company is it?

No.

We have them in every room pretty much and they are about 8 years old

Inside ones. Double hinged

It’s a local family company

We have them, don't have to lift them, that doesn't sound right to me. They should close smoothly and softly and fit perfectly

Inside ones. Double hinged

Assuming there is no tracking system at the top, it could be that the window is too wide for that type of shutter. If so, it's something the company should have advised you about. Did they say anything about having to lift them before they were fitted, and offer the option of a tracking system? If not, then I think you should go back to them and get them replaced.

We have some double hinged ones , and I always slightly take the weight off them when closing that side. They do shut without doing it but i prefer to . The hinges are quite small for the amount of weight that is hanging on them and when open i always fold the second shutter in to take any strain off them

Been in 5 years with no problems.

I always take the weight off our blinds by holding them in the middle when pulling them up, again just takes any unnecessary strain off the cords as they are quite heavy.

If by double hinged you mean bifold then yes, we had them and the sheer length meant there was a (tiny) amount of sag and you had to lift them into the frame.
When we moved, the windows in our new house were even bigger so we immediately discounted bifold shutters and instead each panel is individually hinged. Means more frame but makes the shutters so much easier to use.

Hi. Thank you. I think maybe, that is why. He said that the bifold ones you have to lift slightly
