AirVent - Can I cover with a curtain.

Can I hang a curtain over this air vent?
Will there be any problems with airflow? There is no gas or open fireplace. There is a newly installed Gas boiler which is in a cupboard at the other end of the room.
The reason being, I would like to use my curtains from my old house which are a lot wider than needed for this window, so they will need to stack back all the way to the adjoining wall, using a recess bracket.
Thanks for any thoughts.

No idea about the for need for vent; many older houses do not have them as there are plenty drafts and vents are more of a recent building regs thing. I have lived in many older houses with open fires etc that have no wall vents.
I would suggest more of a wooden pole style curtain rail. The wall attachments tend to be further away from the wall when compared to the flat track style. This could potentially allow a small gap between the curtain and the vent cover. Also the rings tend to allow bit of a gap between rings. Alternatively, using recess brackets for a new pole on the facing walls make sure is it not mounted too near to the vent. The aim is to allow flow of air so as long as the curtains are not in full contact with the cover I would assume that would suffice?
i suspect this area of curtain could become dusty over time as very often attract dust/ cobwebs.
Depending on how high you want the curtain rail to sit ( which may depend on the drop of your existing curtains) there may be a small amount of the vent left exposed anyway.
I am in an older house with some upstairs vents- I block these every winter to stop the drafts but ensure I regularly open the windows to exchange air.

Coming from another angle, could you alter the curtains? Lose a width of fabric from the curtains? Not a difficult job.

Thanks so much for your reply.I think if I can set the curtain away a little then it will have some airflow around it. Good point about the dust and cobwebs in that area. Thanks again
