we’re not able to extend or reconfigure downstairs in our 1930s semi like we’d hoped. So if you have a small kitchen (not kitchen-diner) you’re happy with, please can I see it 🙏🙏🙏

thanks

Look up apartment theraphy. Some fabulous teenchy kitchens there!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/12/2023 11:22

My kitchen is tiny. I'll send a pic later!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 19/12/2023 11:22

Here's ours. Long and narrow.

My kitchen is 2.4m by 2m. It's a struggle.

omnishambles · 19/12/2023 13:15

Some of those kitchens in that article are massive compared to mine - that's definitely cheating. Only one has a fridge in it.

Sgtmajormummy · 19/12/2023 14:14

I have a 2.55m wall and a freestanding fridge.
90cm double sink
60cm dishwasher with draining board over half
60cm cooker and hob
45cm drawers

Above are (same dimensions)
dish draining unit
cupboard
cooker hood
cupboard

That was the best use of the space I could think of. The washing machine is in the bathroom.

Not in my tiny kitchen anymore, but I actually loved having one, it was so easy to cook in, hardly had to move.

Look at ikea for storage ideas and don't forget to get rid of any clutter you don't need.

We have a small kitchen in a very old thatched cottage. We had it redone recently (apart from flooring which will be done later, possibly wooden but tbd) We got a local joiner and plumber to do it and very pleased with results and was custom adjusted. We wanted a traditional look as an old house not an in fashion one. The spotlights are new and a big improvement. We have built in dishwasher and built in fridge which is good. Washing machine / tumble drier are elsewhere downstairs as is small freezer. Solid oak worktops and 60cm mini range cooker from Stoves. Built in extractor fan.

I looked at some articles for ideas and it was amusing the small kitchens that were anything but small.

One thing that's useful are the visualisers were you put photos in and can see different tiles or flooring, some tile / flooring companies have these.

@Newhousecrying Also in a 1930's semi and recently had a new kitchen. Are you able to give the dimentions of yours please?

niclw · 19/12/2023 22:43

I looked at all of the pics on that website and my kitchen is definitely smaller than those. I can have two adults standing in the kitchen and can just about move around. If a 3rd tries to come in they have to wait. My future solution is to move house as I can't extend the kitchen in anyway. I'll be looking for a kitchen diner instead.

Instahome2 · 19/12/2023 22:48

My old kitchen fitted in 2018. 3m x 2.5m but fitted a dishwasher and fridge freezer, loads of storage and worktop space. The solid oak butchers block worktops were stunning, the framed units looked great but were impractical.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the pictures.

@Diversion its about 2.5 by 2.8 with a structural column on one of the walls. There’s the structural column, 2 doors, under the stairs consumer unit and none of the walls are straight which makes it all really awkward. We don’t have space to put the washer dryer anywhere else.

Go and have a mooch around narrowboat interiors (internet or irl for sale ones) they really know how to get the most out of a small space.

MrsFloof · 20/12/2023 15:02

Ours is about 3.5 by 2.5 but doors both ends and an old cottage. We used a joiner and that was great as they could make things to size and make units deeper than normal. Though can be quite hard to get hold of a good one.

Seaside3 · 20/12/2023 15:21

Don't forget to take units to the ceiling if you can, great for storage of things you don't often use etc.
