First time buyer mortgages

Someone is buying my house with a first time buyer mortgage, is it always the case that the mortgage offer only lasts for 6 months, can they have it extended if necessary?

Sometimes they will let you extend by one month to seven, sometimes they will give you two weeks, others won't extend at all, especially if you got a really good rate. It really depends on the lender and what their current policy is. As it's an ever changing market at the moment, their own policies keep changing too, so it's no good saying 'oh, Nationwide will always give you a month's extension', because they won't, necessarily.

FTB who bought 4 weeks ago here! Our mortgage offer only lasted 3 months and we was able to extend an extra month but was made clear from the lender that another extension would be a whole new application/checks/fees.

My dd was buying her first home earlier this year. It was a new build. She had to get an extension as the house wasn't ready. Her mortgage advisor organised it all for her.

Their broker should be all over this, we deal with a lot of new build so have this all the time, but how long is completion looking likely to be? Six months is usually long enough for most chains to complete?

What do you mean by “all over it”?

Sorry @Zapzep I mean communicating with their client (your buyers), about likely exchange & Completion dates and making sure the offer is valid long enough, or that there are plans in place if it wont be. Which one would assume your buyers would discuss with the agent. ie "we need exchange/completion to be by x date".
