Forbes and Lomax light switches - how do I clean them?

I have antique bronze switches and they look grubby. I don't know if someone has had wet hands or sticky fingers. We have painter round just now so they are all off and waiting to be cleaned.

I phoned F & L and they said a cloth only and no water based cleaner. I googled and saw I can buff them with WD 40. Have tried microfibre cloth and WD40 and there is absolutely no improvement. Any ideas anyone?

Brass cleaner was my first thought. Amazon says:

Salute your metals with a top-quality shine! Brasso works on brass, copper, chrome, bronze, stainless steel, pewter, and aluminum. It's a cleaner, polish and protection solution in one, for when you need to buff up lackluster brass, kitchenware and more - no polishing wheel required.

Brasso has been around for donkey's years, fyi.

Thanks, maybe I'll try it on one of them and see how it goes.

@AHFaemale yw. If memory serves me correctly, I used to see folks use them with those old fashioned yellow dusting cloths you can still sometimes find. And a really small amount is used.
