We’ve found a house we like and during the viewing realised it has a trap door in the second reception room leading down to a large cellar. It’s hard to tell how big it is as the current owners are using it for storage.
I’m used to seeing cellar doors accessed via stairs where the house staircase is. Were trap doors common? Is it likely the access via the normal stairs are just boarded up?
I’ve never come across this before so curious how it was originally used and configured in Victorian times.
It looks dry and full head height from what I can tell!
