EICR Cost - Charge For Retest

I have just rented my house out after failing to sell it for over a year, I have never been in this position before so haven’t had experience of electrical safety checks as a landlord.

I received a quote via the letting agents for some remedial works, plus issuing an EICR which I paid. When the first month’s rent came through last week £270 had been deducted to pay the electrician for issuing an EICR.

I have obviously queried this with the agent and they said that it was for issuing a satisfactory EICR, to replace the previous unsatisfactory one, after the works were completed (they were very minor, just upgrading some spotlights in the kitchen ceiling).

Having looked online it seems that usually there wouldn’t be a double charge for this, as the rest of the electrics had already been tested. Is this correct and should I pursue this further with my agent or the electrician?

If the work was contracted through the letting agents then you query this with them. You can ask them to send you copies of the invoices, they should ask for your approval for any costs.
