Asbestos Question

Apologies if I am asking a very daft question and rambling, have young baby and not slept much !!

We have confirmed asbestos in all our artex ceilings of our new home.
Artex ceilings very old.

At some point in the future we will be removing, cannot afford yet.

I am aware, as long as the artex ceilings are not disturbed, then it is OK.

One ceiling had black mould. Dh heavily sprayed the area affected with mould remover. Mould now gone.
(Dh did not scrub area. He simply only heavily sprayed and left it).

Asbestos question:
I am assuming spraying the artex ceiling heavily will NOT have disturbed the asbestos?
Assuming that because it is liquid only being sprayed, this is NOT enough pressure to disturb it?

From what I understand, asbestos in any artex is heavily imbedded, and it needs to be properly disturbed for asbestos fibres to be released. We had interpreted that “disturbing it” is through doing things like drilling, breaking of the ceiling.

Would like clarification because dh didn’t use protective clothing. Due to gravity spraying a ceiling with mould remover, and he sprayed lots ! … some liquid fell onto his clothes. These clothes have since been washed in our washing machine. I am assuming that because it was liquid being sprayed only, it would be impossible for the asbestos being disturbed just from that?

I just want to check before I put on my babies laundry on in our washing machine? I have suddenly regretted washing dh clothes he was wearing. I am being daft worrying unnecessarily am I?

You're right that unless he was drilling, cutting or breaking apart the artex in some way, asbestos fibres won't be released. You don't need to worry about your washing machine!

I would think that would be fine. We had a full asbestos survey when we bought this house, and our asbestos all removed, and the professionals seemed more concerned with actual abrasive actions ie scraping, sanding, drilling etc. As it was wet spraying, it's unlikely to have released fibres into the air. It might be worth painting over the area to encapsulate it if you aren't planning to remove it soon.
