Water leak

Hi. FTB Scotland. Reno is ongoing and neighbour downstairs complained about the water leak. I’m on the first floor and water leaked onto ground floor flat into their bedroom. I immediately sent plumber to fix it and now sorted with no delay. However the neighbour has just sent a vague email asking me contact their end regarding ‘insurance cover’

what does that mean? FTB so I’m so confused. Are they wanting to make a sue/ claim? What’s it for? I paid in full for the plumber so what’s they are asking?

I only have building insurance. I do t have home insurance but my understanding is home insurance is a combination of content insurance (ie removable items in house) and building insurance (ie structure)

any help would be great! I’m super stressed, I have no money left from Reno at this point and another thing to sort out..

Depends what was damaged by the leak; how bad was it?

Maybe they need some redecoration of the ceiling or the bedding replaced...

That’s great you’ve got the leak sorted, and so quickly, but now you need to make good the damage that it caused. If the leak wasn’t too bad, you might get away with it just needing repainted, once it’s dried out, but there might be some plastering needing done too. You’ll need to communicate with them, for relations with them going forward, you might be better having an actual conversation, then confirm that by email.
long and short, it’s an absolute ball ache for them, and you need to put them back in the position they were in pre-leak…so that means damage repaired and redecorated, NOT the entire room being decorated
