Kitchen extension suppliers - the good and the ugly

I used much of the advice I found on Mumsnet when selecting suppliers for a small kitchen extension in SW London so wanted to share my experience.

  • DIY kitchens, good but patience needed if need to replace something. Measure three times before hitting the order button. They work with a worktop supplier called Natural Stone - the quality of the granite is excellent, and very good value.
  • My architects (Design squared) and builders (AMO Luxury bathrooms) were both very good. Well worth spending the time and money upfront to get the right spec. The builders were real craftsmen.
  • Windows were critical to this job - I was putting in 6 new Velfac windows. That was where it went pear-shaped. Do not touch Thames Windows and Doors. If things go wrong, they will not be your champion. They will not admit their errors and will not support you as a customer (unlike every other supplier I worked with). The customer service I received from them, for an order well over £10k, was beyond disappointing. They mismanaged expectations on delivery dates (screwing up build schedule by a month), they didn’t order the cills and they refused to admit any culpability.
Thanks to this community for all your advice.
