Plug socket height in extension

I am in the process of building a side return kitchen extension. The electrician came to discuss the electrical plan and said all new sockets will need to be 450mm off the floor to get building regulations approval.

Is this the case for extensions?
I live in a Victorian terrace and am opening up the dining area to the kitchen and doing a side return extension.

I have tried to ring building control but no answer. The electrician comes in the morning.

If anyone has a definite answer i'de really appreciate the advice

UK Building Regulations Part M (Access to and use of buildings) states that wall mounted switches and socket outlets for power, lighting and other equipment in new dwellings “..should be located so that they are easily reachable.”

Part M of the Building Regulations (section 8) does not actually specify the required position but does go on to suggest that in habitable rooms this will be achieved by mounting the switches etc. between 45cm and 1200mm above the floor level

Yes, mine have all ended up at that height, I assume for the same reason. Quite annoying from a design perspective, but I can see it's more practical, especially as people get older.

It applies to new buildings if your just adding them in an extension or extra sockets then just put them the same height as all the others.
