Bathroom renovation in 1 bed flat - do I need to leave?

I have a 1 bed/1 bathroom flat and I wanted to get a new bathroom fitted, this will include tiling and plastering - a total renovation of an albeit small bathroom. My question is - do I need to move out? I have a very nervous cat that I don't want to put in a cattery as he is impossible to get in a basket. Also I can't afford to move out. I have been told it could be done in a week.

Just wondered if anyone else had any experience of having this done? Any bright solutions I haven't thought of?

My DH was a bathroom installer, before retiring, he worked around people and tried to make sure the toilet is always back on at night, but you will have to ask your fitter if that’s the way they work, as some fitters won’t guarantee this. He’s also worked in houses where there are cats and usually not a problem, some clients ask him to make sure door’s are not left open if they are indoor cats.

Of course you don't need to move out. It's only a bathroom renovation.

Set yourself and the cat up in a room as far as possible from the work, shut the door and ignore the goings-on as much as you can. Lots of love, warmth and treats to try and settle the cat.

I tried not to drink too much so I wasn't disrupting the tradesmen every couple of hours for wee.

You could buy a porta potty (or a regular pot) if you think there might be a short term problem with toilet availability.
