Quooker vs Qettle vs Kettle

Hi everyone. I went to a kitchen showroom yesterday and was basically told absolutely everyone has a Quooker nowadays and I would be mad not to get one. I have considered these several times in the past but could never justify the cost, however the sales lady made me feel I was seriously missing out. My research suggests they are

  1. obviously way more expensive to buy than a kettle and standard tap
  2. no cheaper to run (max 1p per day)
  3. take up space under the sink
  4. require maintenance
  5. only have 2 years warranty which doesn't show a great deal of confidence in their product
For me I feel there is too much to go wrong. I have been gradually going lower tech over the last 7 years after various smart technology (lighting etc) has failed and/or moves on too quickly etc. I have no problem waiting 3 minutes for the kettle to boil to make tea or pour over the pasta and I am fairly convinced I would probably burn myself using the tap. I have also heard the tea tastes terrible. I imagine it would with anything other than the true 100 degree ones, but I have heard it even tastes awful with the Qettles and Quookers? I would like to hear your experiences. I understand the Qettle requires six monthly filter changes at over £32 a go and cleaning of the tank. So, assuming the Quooker requires no such maintenance this is around an additional £80 per year so the saving is eradicated over time. Has anyone had a Quooker for more than 2 years? Have you had to do any maintenance or repairs? Does anyone also have the food insinkerators? Are they any good? Thanks so much.

My takeaway from this thread is that the OP doesn't want a boiling water kettle and fans who have them should all let her be, because having reached the end where all the usu arguments for and against have been made without any change in position it is about the dullest thread on MN - a situation that is unlikely to change.

Haha yes I think I have decided I can't bear the thought of the maintenance headaches and associated costs for what isn't really giving me anything I don't already have. The real benefit for me would be sparkling water but most don't offer that and the Quooker is seriously costly for that benefit at around £3000. Thanks everyone for your comments and experiences, much appreciated.

A relative has one, the tea is not very nice. We thought it was their water (as they're soft water area compared to our very hard water) as we use the same teabags and milk. Never considered it might be the actual tap itself.

Also find the drinks don't stay very hot/aren't as hot as the kettle made drinks are and theirs has become rather 'loose' in its part of the sink very quickly.

Eta: theirs is a quooker

I've got a friend who has one, not had a decent cup of tea there since it was fitted

@tenbob do you mind me asking how much it is for a new filter? I assume you can do it yourself. Have you ever had it serviced in the 6 years? They recommend 1-5 years?

£70 I just did this recently

I’m really surprised at the posts saying water from the Quooker makes tea etc taste bad. Maybe it depends on the water in the area, I don’t know, but tea from ours tastes just the same as when water comes from our cold tap and boiled in the kettle. We love our Quooker 🤷‍♀️

So does ours, in fact it's better than the kettle because it's filtered.
It starts to go a bit scummy if the filter needs changing (hard water here).

I think ours tastes better too, but hesitated to say that in case I was imagining it. It makes sense of course that it would be due to the filter. I hadn’t thought of that. Team Quooker 💪

Another Team Quooker stalwart here. Although ours is more justifiable 😇 as it delivers our hot water as well as boiling - the hot water tank is on the 2nd floor so running hot water to the kitchen involved loads of waste.

We've had it for 12 years! and it's been serviced once. Tea tastes great (I am a massive fussy tea drinker), and it's lovely for pasta/potatoes etc.

Have moved a few times in the last 10 years so have tried a few different brands (Qettle and Fohen inc) boiling water taps. In my opinion Quooker is by far the best and worth the extra money.

Tea didn't taste perfect with some of the other brands, Fohen particularly as not 100 degrees, but it is perfect with the Quooker. I would not be without a boiling water tap now.

Just had a new kitchen put it without a qooker! They are far too expensive and also break.

sadietoo · 20/07/2024 12:42

I've been on the fence now for while with regards Quooker taps but after a little test in my kitchen I'm off to sign up! It has taken 1minute and 15 seconds which is approx 12 litres of water to get hot water from my kitchen tap, this means I am leaving the same amount in the pipes to go cold before I next draw water. For me the savings will be considerable ( both water and gas ) and the savings for the planet won't be shoddy either.

Just had a new kitchen. Kept my kettle! Far too much money otherwise.
