Skimming artex ceilings = painting walls also?

Hi we're buying a late-90s house with artex ceilings throughout. I want to get these skimmed but if I do will the plaster get on the walls requiring me to paint every wall of every room in the house? I was planning on just painting a few of the rooms as some are fine. Unfortunately I don't have any of the existing paint already to be able to just touch up the walls after skimming. I know of course the ceilings themselves will need to be painted after skimming.

I thought it best to get the ceilings skimmed before we move in as it's likely to be a messy job. I doubt there's any asbestos in them due to the age of the house but I just don't like the way they look. Thanks.

I had all my Artex ceilings plastered over and was amazed how little mess there was elsewhere.

The plasterer took plenty of time to prepare covering all walls, windows, doors etc with sheeting.

There was a slight amount of ‘splashing’ but nothing that couldn’t be wiped away until I was ready to have the rest of the room painted.

Oh that's great news - thank you @Rafting2022 !

No worries, if you’re in the north west by any chance I can pass on a recommendation.

Of all the work I’ve had done on my house (90s like yours) plastering over the artex has made the most difference, definitely worth doing!

I’ve just had my entire downstairs done and I agree. I was decorating anyway but could have got away with it if I wasn’t.

it’s made a huge difference. House roughly the same age.

I just had the textured ceilings plastered smooth in my house that was built in 1998.
There was the odd drip or splash on the wall but nothing really. Plasterer covered everything well.
It makes such a difference!

Done it before. And possible to do it without the mess and the need to repaint all walls. Makes a massive difference!

I had a ceiling replastered and unfortunately there were a lot of drips down the walls, which entailed scraping them off (they dried solid, nor sure what caused them) and repainting the walls. Luckily it was only one room.
