Last minute delay for completion nightmare

We are supposed to be completing today but our lawyers IT system is completely down and they have been unable to transfer the money. Has anyone experienced something similar and what happened next? Our sellers just rung us panicking as they have had all their stuff packed up and we have loads to deliveries booked to the new house tomorrow (whiteware, furniture etc). We are bottom of the chain - will be liable for everyone’s costs even if it’s our lawyers fault?

Does anyone know what position ON Patient are in?

Being told many different things. We rely on them for us to move. It should have been today

Aleo9977 · 28/11/2023 09:23

I’ve heard some teams are back up and running but not all. Try ring your case manager through their direct dial number.

@wishIwasonholiday10 I feel your pain. I am caught in this nightmare too. We were supposed to exchange last Thursday 23rd with completion on 4 Dec. I've only just found out today that it wasn't just "IT issues" but a cyber hack. And I only know that as I sent an email this morning to my agents and my Solicitor saying "what the hell is going on - is this a Solicitor IT System that has collapsed" And lo and behold, it was. One of the Solicitors -Taylor Rose- in our chain uses CTS. I understand the complexity of a manual completion - but hey, I'm of an age when they were ALL done manually! I'm in a chain of 5, so we are all in limbo.

Similarly held back. Should have completed on FIL's flat sale last Thursday... Should now exchange and complete tomorrow, but as they still can't access the financial files the money will be held by the solicitors until they can... Less of a problem for us as the sale is to fund his care but still a nightmare for those in a chain.

anyusernamesnotused · 28/11/2023 11:43

I've just heard that its unlikely our completion will go ahead this Thursday (we exchanged a while ago).
I'm having to cancel removals, workmen, internet etc. and we don't have another date to give anyone for the time being.
It's so frustrating for everyone involved. I was lulled into the false sense of security that once you exchanged it had to go ahead...
I knew I'd managed to get everything lined up to easily!
NB: Apparently my buyers solicitor still doesn't have access to any systems.

Jano432 · 28/11/2023 11:55

Do you know who they are?

alicefenton88 · 28/11/2023 12:05

It’s so frustrating, what a horrendous experience during what is already a very stressful time. Why is it always end customers who are impacted when businesses mess up, with no repercussions for the business..

runningmum77 · 28/11/2023 12:08

I'm sorry this happened. This sounds awful!

LynBin100 · 28/11/2023 12:23

@anyusernamesnotused that's the frustrating bit, trying to coordinate everything with no end date. It's impossible. I haven't exchanged so I feel luckier than some. Im still struggling to understand how a company who advises on cyber security can be hacked. Oh, the irony. But it's really not funny. How, in this day and age, companies don't have disaster recovery procedures is a mystery to me.

I know, you have to try and see the funny side…
Although it doesn’t seem that funny atm.
I had everything lined up perfectly and now I don’t even have a date!

Jano432 · 28/11/2023 12:49

Same here. Organised all thr services etc to then undo everything.

Might have to go at short notice but to find a removal company at short notice may be a problem.

This is exactly what I’m worried about.

it’s a living nightmare tbh, we’re all packed apart from a suitcase each.

i’ll keep my fingers crossed for you too. Let me know as soon as you hear anything.

alicefenton88 · 28/11/2023 13:03

Has anyone written a formal letter of complaint to their solicitor? I think I will. We weren’t even informed of the issue, I had to call them a leave a voicemail to get a response. No replies to emails etc.

FourLastSongs · 28/11/2023 14:21

Ours has gone through.
Due to complete on Friday and the funds finally cleared this morning.

Wr had exchanged the week before.

That’s great news! Congratulations

FourLastSongs · 28/11/2023 14:29

Thank you! It has been pretty stressful, but far more so for our poor buyers who had to drive past the house with their removal van.

Aleo9977 · 28/11/2023 14:34

@FourLastSongs thats amazing to hear! Who are your solicitors?

LynBin100 · 28/11/2023 14:42

Well done @FourLastSongs I’d be interested if anyone knows of any movement at Taylor Rose. I suspect they will deal with backlog of completions before they start any new exchanges.

FourLastSongs · 28/11/2023 14:43

They are a local firm with a few offices. They were not impacted but solicitors further down the chain were.

I was very impressed with ours; they kept us updated and were very calm and reassuring throughout.

Aleo9977 · 28/11/2023 15:03

@LynBin100 ive been trying to keep up with it all on Twitter as it’s going mad on there. Out of the big firms, It seems it’s just ONP and Talbots Law who can process completions right now. Anything I’ve read about Taylor Rose has said they can’t do anything.

LynBin100 · 28/11/2023 15:07

Thank you @Aleo9977

Junkyard84 · 28/11/2023 15:18

Taylor Rose are top of our chain - we were due to exchange last Thurs and complete tomorrow. The agent told us today TR won't be doing any new exchanges and completions until after Christmas now.

ELS014 · 28/11/2023 15:21

Been following this thread, in the same situation as most, with my buyers solicitors being affected, 0 information or updates from them at all. I'd be interested to see if anyone is using Setfords Law.

Aleo9977 · 28/11/2023 15:27

@Junkyard84 just seen this.

Last minute delay for completion nightmare
LynBin100 · 28/11/2023 15:28

@Junkyard84 oh no! that's not what i wanted to hear
